Serie A giants Inter who are not cash rich signed Fredy Guarín to a new contract as nobody had bought him yet and immediately continued to offer him around Europe to anyone who would listen. Naturally our nae has been mentioned but as he has signed a contract until 2018 his transfer fee remains high and there are other cheaper options.

Inter fans don't rate him and want him sold, when he nearly was these fans complained they didn't want him either so the deal fell through. We are not favourites, we are not top of the list, we are not even interested but apparently we are going to face stiff competition from Juventus. The competition will be as stiff as our defence was last season.

On this day in 2005 striker Frédéric Kanouté played his last game for us, a 2-0 win away to Portsmouth on the opening day of the season. In th same game Canadian right-back Paul Stalteri, winger Wayne Routledge and midfielder Teemu Tainio all made their debuts. That season we had the famous dodgy lasagna but were forced to play with a sick squad, Tanip being one of them.

On this day in 1997 Les Ferdinand scored his first Tottenham goal in a 2-1 away defeat to West Ham.

Happy 30th Birthday to midfielder Niko Kranjčar and happy 41st birthday to Paul Mahorn
