Spanish sports paper AS are suggesting that Villarreal have offered Mateo Musacchio a new contract with wages that are not that far below the Tottenham offer. They suggest that money was the reason he wanted to leave for Tottenham and that perhaps he will think twice now.
Other reports have suggested they have already bought a player who appears to be his replacement. As ever with Tottenham transfers it will rumble on but this one is of course confused by third party ownership, illegal in the Premier League but legal in La Liga and other European leagues.
Musacchio's agent Marcelo Lombilla told Spanish paper Marca in January that his clients value was around £16.5m (€20.66m) so all the scaremongering of £50 million (€62.66m) was just papers trying to make stories to sell copies.
Sunderland are thought to have asked Tottenham about taking Nacer Chadli on a season-long loan, a deal that has no chance of coming off. Season-long loans are fine for youngsters developing or players at the end of their careers but for the rest their is little or no benefit to the club loaning the payer out.
It simply runs down a year on a contract so if a layer has flopped for a year and is loaned out in the second year of a 4-year deal he then returns to his original club with just 2 years left on his contract and that length of time starts to reduce his transfer value.
When was the last first team squad member aged 25 or above loaned out for a season?
Belgian 25-year-old Chadli has a contract until 2018 so will either be sold or retained.
Harry Redknapp loves a Tottenham player of course so it's no surprise he wants Andros Townsend for a reported fee of £10 million (€12.52m). Last summer there was talk of clubs being interested in Townsend and it was though his price then was £8 million (€10.02m), a figure clubs baulked at.
Now having become an England player his value is hardly only going to have risen £2 million (€2.5m), much more likely it will have doubled at least. Logic suggests any bid of £10 million (€12.52m) hasn't a chance of being successful.
While on QPR, Glenn Hoddle has held discussions with Harry Redknapp about taking on a caching role to implement the 3-5-2 formation QPR will be using this season with Rio Ferdinand playing as a sweeper. It's a system Hoddle has used before so he would be able to speed up it's implementation.
