Antoine Griezmann to Spurs

Spurs have put in a bid for French international wide man Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad in La Liga according to the Daily Mirror.

Antoine Griezmann to Spurs

The bid is £20 million (€25.31m) for the 23-year-old who has a buy-out clause set at £24 million (€30.37m). Other reports suggest we have placed a £15 million (€18.98m) bid which has been rejected. The Telegraph mind you say the bid is £25 million (€31.64m), even more than his buy-out clause, me thinks that was supposed to be Euros and somebody hasn't bothered to convert it, Fourfortwo suggest its £23.71 million (€30m).

His buy-out clause will be a Euro figure which suggests £23.71 million (€30m) or £24.50 million (€31m) is actually the correct figure.

The Telegraph go on to tell us the buy-out clause is £25 million (€30m) which suggests they have their maths a little wrong, £25 million  is €31.64m. They also suggest that Spurs didn't buy a replacement for Gareth Bale.

The reporter seems to have forgotten a certain Erik Lamela, purchased as a replacement for Gareth Bale who could operate on either wing or centrally behind a striker. The Telegraph go on to tell us that Spurs have made it a priority to sign a top-quality forward who can drift in from the left to create and score goals.

Well our priorities have been left-back, which we now finally have sorted, just waiting on an official announcement and a centre-half, or two. Jamaal Lascelles is believed to be the player lined up to bring in which leaves the wide left area as the Telegraph say and a central defensive midfielder which a range of passing.

Mauricio Pochettino has concerns about moving the ball from defence to attack, last season it was incredibly slow and ponderous, almost as if we were waiting for the opposition to get all their men behind the ball before we started.

Memphis Depay of PSV Eindhoven is a back up option is the bid for Griezmann fails amid stiff competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG and Monaco. In our favour is French captain Hugo Lloris  and efforts to sign his fellow countryman Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton.

The net bulged 16 times for Griezmann who has been at Real Sociedad since he was 14 and that made him the sixth highest goalscorer and the leading goalscorer outside the top 3, not bad for a winger. Get Lamela to spark from the right, have something similar from the left with Eriksen central and suddenly Spurs look a different proposition.

He is a left footer with touch and technique, a result of his Spanish upbringing. He has pace and energy, his frame may be an issue, a side can't have too many slight of frame in the Premier League. He likes to be direct and despite all those goals can be inconsistent, he had a 2 month spell where he didn't score. In the Champions League he didn't sparkle but is undoubtedly a talent who can develop further.

France coach Didier Deschamps has been impressed with him and took him to the World Cup.

“He is very efficient, he scores a lot of goals and he creates goals too. He can play anywhere across the attack, even if he is more effective down the flanks. He’s technically sound, brings a lot of energy to the game and is very mobile.”
