Spurs interested in £20m playmaker Marek Hamšík

There have been reports that Tottenham want to raid Napoli for 26 attacking midfielder Marek Hamšík.

Spurs interested in Marek Hamšík from Napoli

Rafa Benítez managed Napoli were after Étienne Capoue in January so potentially their is room for negotiation but Spurs can't be changing too many players again this summer.

The 26 year-old Slovakian is a weak tackler and weak defensively but his strengths are in the final third with his passing, dribbling, eye for a through ball and set-pieces.

He made 28 appearances last season but 8 of those were as a substitute. He scored 7 goals and made 6 assists. He had 59 shots and a pass success rate of 84.4% in all games. He won 16 out of 38 headers.

Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in Hamšík who will be 27 before next season starts. He is not a first choice of Rafa Benítez and is considering a move to get more playing time.

Former Napoli manager Gianni Di Marzio told Kiss Kiss Radio:

"Should Benitez remain [Hamsik] will be the first to be sold in the summer."
Hamšík was a talented player but has not recovered his previous form after injury. the rumours won't go away of a fall out with Benítez with
Hamšík not happy that he is not starting the crucial games.

In 2012/13 he led Serie A in assists, 14 in addition to the 13 goals he scored. The his value was around £30 million (€36.89m) but it is drastically reduced now, possibly to below £20 million (€24.59m).

Rafa Benítez has sought to diffuse the situation telling local paper Tutto Napoli how important Hamšík is to Napoli.

"Hamsik is important to me, he is vital to Napoli, there is no doubt about that. He has had an injury but played many games in which he played to his level. I am very happy with him and do not want to sell him. I think Marek is a key player. He is not on the market and we will not consider any offers for Marek Hamsik."
Whether that appeases the talented Slovakian who is under contract until 2016 only time will tell but he doesn't seem to fit the Spaniards system. Where play went trough him before it comes through other channels now so his situation doesn't look like improving.
