Spain 1 Holland 5 Video Highlights

A sensation for some perhaps but anyone who read my Group assessments will know I am expecting Spain to go out at the group stages.

They have an ageing side playing in the heat of South America and for me it's a tournament too far for them. The Holland game was a game I felt they would at best get a draw but 30 year-old Arjen Robben and 30 year-old Robin van Persie simply tore them apart.

Spain were thrashed 5-1, Van Persie also hit the bar and Holland had glorious chances to make it 6 or 7. Spain's insomnia football had no answer to the pace they were up against from Louis Van Gaal's side.

The equaliser from Robin van Persie was a simply brilliant header and set up a tremendous second half.

Tottenham target 24 year-old Daryl Janmaat started at right-back for Holland while another Spurs target, 22 year-old centre-half Stefan de Vrij scored the second Holland goal.

  1. After watching the match think levy balding and poch should be focusing more on blind. Plays at left fullback/ wing back but also spends a lot of game time for ajax at defensive mid.
  2. We certainly need to sort out our left-hand side and have a specialist midfielder there rather than a central midfield playing out of position. That would improve Danny Rose but I'm also expecting to see a new left-back anyway, but not one that costs £20m. Daley Blind (Ajax) is more affordable though and did well in this game. I'm loath to just buy players on World Cup form though, so many fail.
  3. Blind won dutch footballer of the year this season and was linked with spurs when lvg was potentially going to be our new manager so has pedigree rather than just a world cup wonder
