Spurs back in for Madrid striker Alvaro Morata

Tottenham have a policy of looking for players with one year of their contract to run as if a club wants to cash in on the player they have to do so then or lose him on a free transfer at the end of the next season.



Players in this situation are cheaper than their ability, by that I mean if they had a longer contract they would cost considerably more. One such player is Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

Real want him to sign a contract extension so they have the option to keep him or loan him out. Spanish news outlet Fichajes have reported that Tottenham are in the chase for Spanish U21 international Morata along with Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan.

The Spanish giants will only loan him out if he signs a contract extension which as he is not playing at the moment he is unwilling to do.

The Italian sides are loan options while Spurs are to offer him a longer term contract, usually four or five years. Arsenal are also known to be keen on his signature but the negotiations have been rather protracted so now we have renewed our interest.

Previously we have tried to take him on loan but he has been required as cover. Real Madrid are now looking to sign Luis Suarez and have placed a £17.82 million (€22m) price tag on him. They would also want a £20.25 million (€25m) buy-back clause in his contract.

Morata hardly plays, the 19 games is misleading, he only played 282 minutes scoring 6 goals, an average of a goal every 47 minutes. Carlo Ancelloti has said he wants him to stay and Real Madrid believe he has huge potential so want to tie him to a new deal, but without guaranteed game time it's proving difficult.

"Morata has been doing a great job this season. I hope he will stay at Madrid. We need him. He has the potential to be close to Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo."

At 21 he would be some signing but the £25 million buy-back clause would be a problem for Daniel Levy to overcome, he wouldn't want to be losing out on his potential sale value in future.
