Premier League Live Spurs v Sunderland
3 min read
Another game comes around and time to put a bad taste out of the mouth. The Premier League Live Spurs v Sunderland game I have a feeling will be entertaining. Sunderland need a win and we are vulnerable defensively.
We would like a performance to forget another debacle against the top 4 so we may attack and net a few goals, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw another 3-2, in our favour of course.
The Black Cats are bottom of the Premier League (EPL) and Spurs are odds-on for the game, rather false odds for us at the moment. Sunderland have taken 1 point out of 18 and we have an excellent record against the teams at the bottom suggesting a routine win but that is unlikely to be the case with ourselves having lost 4 of the last 6 games.
There is still something for us to play for with Manchester City winning the League Cup and certain to finish in the top 4 sixth will be enough for another Europa League campaign. Yes it tires the players out but surely playing the kids in the tournament as Harry Redknapp used to do would be great for their development. The tournament doesn't have to be the drainer it is if used in that way.
The main threat from Gus Poyet's men will come from set pieces, they have scored 46.4% of all their goals this season from dead balls. With our left sided weakness they are likely to attack that area as well.
With Emmanuel Adebayor set to return and lead the attack only 70% fit, the midfield have an important role to play. They have to get up in support of the front man, which we know Christian Eriksen will do if he starts on the left. Paulinho needs to put in a good performance when he gets on the field and asked to support a front man it could be a game for him to play.
I'd plump for a midfield four of Lennon, Dembele, Paulinho and Eriksen with Nabil Bentaleb or Sandro if he is fit holding.
Sandro has looked off the pace in the last couple of games he played, a bit leg weary. He was having to make challenges after his man had gone past him and getting booked early in the game. He was also a bit slow on the ball, slow to pass it and slow to anticipate. He has had a couple of games to refresh and train further so may be fitter now.
The back four will be Kyle Naughton and Danny Rose at full-back with Zeki Fryers on the bench and pair two from three at centre-back. Dawson as club captain and a player guaranteed to give it his all will get one spot I expect with Younes Kaboul possibly taking the other.
Kaboul has also looked all at sea recently with an uninterested Vertonghen causing him problems. Perhaps with Dawson back he will tighten up. That is the call for Sherwood, if he doesn't feel he will then Vlad Chiriches could start instead of starting on the bench.
