Bentaleb goes to the World Cup in Brazil
1 min read
Spurs young 19 year-old midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has agreed to play for Algeria at the World Cup in Brazil in June.
The youngster who has come from nowhere to break into the Tottenham team under Tim Sherwood is in the Algeria squad for next month's warm-up fixture against Slovenia.
As reported his family had met with the Algerian Football Association president and they wanted him to play for them and not France. Bentaleb had already turned down England and selected the country of his parents, which for me is the right decision, to play international football for instead of perhaps the more lucrative option of France.
"He has agreed to play for the country of his parents after meeting Algerian Football Federation president Mohamed Raouaraoua," the federation said in a statement.
"He will be called up for the game on March 5 against Slovenia in Blida."
The Algerian press have been giving this a lot of coverage and they are obviously delighted.
