Vertongen, Sandro, Paulinho, Kaboul play against West Ham

Jan Vertonghen completed an hour on Thursday against West Ham in a 3-2 win. Also playing were Paulinho, Sandro and Younes Kaboul who have all also been injured.

On his comback Vertonghen said: "I felt fine. I partnered with Younes, we had a strong team and it was just about the perfect game to come back in.
"I need a little more mobility and training but I played 60 minutes and I'm ready. I'm very happy to be out there again, happy to be back with the lads in the dressing room.
"We've won five of the last six, we're fifth in the table and we want to keep going.
"You always need competition for places to progress and everyone wants to play the next game."

Tim Sherwood was pleased to see them back saying: “It is great news to see so many lads returning from injury at such a crucial time.

“They have come through okay and it’s good to see them get some minutes under their belts. There is nothing like playing.

“With players of this quality coming back to fitness it reinforces the fact that we have strength and depth in the squad."

Sandro tweeted: “Hello everyone. Guys, I feel good. I’m coming, thank you for the support.”

Paulinho also thanked everyone: “I’m very happy to return to training. Thanks to everyone who sent messages during my recovery.”

Gylfi Sigurdsson has only just returned from a calf injury himself, coming on as a sub in the win over Swansea. He is now looking to establish himself in the team.

“The injury took a little longer than I expected, but it’s completely gone now and I feel 100 per cent again. The team is doing well and it’s nice to be available again.

“I thought we played well at Swansea, hopefully now we’ll get another good result against City and kick on again.

“The league is so tight at the moment. Everyone has talked about how well Liverpool have been doing this season, but we’re now level on points. We’re right in the mix.”

Hulk posted a picture of himself arriving at Luton, reports suggest Baldini is in Italy, possibly for Fabio Quagliarella, a 30 year-old (31 on 31st Jan) striker at Juventus that may be available for around £4m.

That seems far more likely than Fredy Guarin, unless of course Daniel is trying to get one of his cheap deals. With our clogged midfield though, I can't see it.
