On this day is a feature I have been running on Facebook for quite a while now which also appears on Twitter. It gives an opportunity to delve into our past so let's see what today, January 29th throws up for us.
Our first game was in 1898 away against Chatham, which for the uninitiated is a part of the Medway Towns in Kent, about an hour from London by train, assuming there are no leaves on the line of course! This was a Southern League game which we had the misfortune to lose 4-2.
Our last game on this day, before tonight was in 2005 away against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup 4th Round which we drew 1-1 winning the replay 3-1. Our team selected by Martin Jol was:
Robinson, Kelly, King (c), Gardner, Edman, Davies (Marney 76), Carrick, Brown, Atouba, Defoe (Keane 76), Kanoute.
Unused Subs: Fulop, Bunjevcevic, Paramot
Scorer: Defoe (pen) 32
We have played a total of 9 FA Cup games on this day and our record is: P9 W5 D2 L2 F20 A10
We have played just 2 Premier League games beating Blackburn Rovers at home in 1997 and losing to Newcastle United also at home 1-0 in 2003.

In 1968 Phil Beal scored his only goal which helped us beat Queens Park Rangers 3-2 at home in the old First Division. The same game saw David Jenkins score his last goal for us.
