Lambert and the internationals

Gylfi Sigurdsson played 90 minutes for Iceland who beat the Faroe Islands 1-0 and Paulinho played 90 minutes for Brazil in their 1-0 defeat in Switzerland. The 90 minutes will help his fitness after having a holiday after the Confederations Cup and only returning to training at the end of July.

Nacer Chadli played 70 minutes for Belgium in their 0-0 draw with France which again will benefit his fitness which we have been building up since his move. Fellow countryman Mousa Dembele came on for the final five minutes. Hugo Lloris captained the French side and played the full 90 minutes.

Kyle Walker player 90 minutes for England as they beat Scotland 3-2 at Wembley. That was his sixth cap and his sixth win in an entertaining friendly, something of a rarity. It was good to see a proper game of football, one where you are actually allowed to tackle an opponent without screams of pain and constant rolling around or diving at the slightest touch.

Congratulations to Southampton's Ricky Lambert whose first touch in international football saw his header hit the back of the net. Great moment for the lad and the interview after showed how much playing for England means to some players, oh for a team of eleven who all felt the same passion but with only about 68 English players playing regular Premier League football each week that is unlikely to happen.
