Spurs to announce new signing!

So then, we've got our man. Seb Bassong will be announced as our new signing today and to be honest with you, it's a relief.

He's not a bad player, although I personally would have preferred Blackburn's Samba. At least we've got cover at centre-half level now.

I'm a bit sceptical about the £10 million sum being mooted though. I can't see Levy sanctioning that kind of cash for a squad player.

Time will tell.

  2. Whether it's 7 or 10 million I think in the long term this guy might be a steal. He was solid for Newcastle last term and with it being his first season in the prem, we wasn't bad at all when dealing with the pace and stength of centre forwards in this league.

    Lets just hope he doesn't catch the WHL defensive bug and end up with a long term knee or groin injury.

  4. Probably not £10m. Don't forget Hughton is a Spurs man and Mikle Ashley is a big Spurs fan too. I think we'd def end up with more favourable terms than other clubs.

  6. Don't agree with your blog suggesting that Samba is better than Bassong. Samba is a JT type player, good in the air good stopper but put the ball on the ground and he's a real klutz! Bassong is technically more gifted.

    You're right about Samba being good in the air. After these pre-season friendlies and some of the games last season, isn't Samba what we need?

    Our set-piece defending at times was bordering stupidity.

  9. I agree Bassong is a better bet than Samba. He is also good on the ball. Anyway, we need a decent centre back with all the injuries we have and Bassong is a good choice. COYS :)
  10. We are also beeing linking with Beevers from Sheff Wed... Not seen much of him but he gets good reviews. I guess he will replace Dervitte as the up and coming starlet... and I am not surprised as Dervitte looked well out of his depth in the pre-season friendlies

    Bassong is better than a lot of the ropey alternatives we could have ended up with.

    He is actually only banned for 1 game as Newcastle have already played 1 game since the ban (last day of season), so if we sign him after Saturday's game he wont be suspended at all for us.
  13. He's banned for one game...he hasn't served his ban yet. Newcastle will play before us as the lower leagues do...could be well worth completeing the deal after they play.
  14. Hopefully Harry's right about this one, buying a player that's banned at the start as cover for those games he's banned from does seem like madness though.

Id be glad to see him at da lane we need a bit of pace as our cb dont have any. i do think kings best days are gone but still good enough to play at this level and international level as cover.There nothing wrong with crouch talking about top for without a winning mentality u get no where you got to be aiming for top for and ithink we got a better squad now than when da scum made sure our players got food posioning and lost out on last day of the season

  18. You speak about the top 4 as if it's calculated by each player's stats and ratInge. I think people forget that it's a TEAM game and sometimes the team play is greater than the sum of it's individual parts. Everton in 2005 for example.

    Besides, this top 4 b*llocks is getting on my nerves. Over the last 10 years Sky have build this sh*t myth up that it's better to finish 4th in the league than win ANY cups, just to help their big match ratings along with the pretentious tw*ts that run the CL. Remember our cup run in 95? Back then the FA cup meant much more than any European place. It shows what a sad mess football has become in the last decade.

  20. Anonymous: yes they finished above us but we started with 8 points the first 10-12 games. We finished the season with a form to take us to 4th or fifth if it were over a season. We had a bd run of injuries, Defoe, King, Palacios missing the last three etc. I would rather aim high but not consider it a formality. Keep the faith
