The Brown's hit the fan

I watched the Celtic vs. Arsenal game last night because I wanted to see what was so special about the Celtic player we are apparently so interested in.

So I watched and I watched. I was sure that his name was on the team sheet, but he was nowhere to be seen.

"Oh, there he is!", I found myself saying out loud in the 19th minute. You see, it took that long to realise that Scott Brown was actually on the pitch. He appeared every now and then, passing sideways and backwards. If Harry was at the match, surely someone would have told Brown to perform on a higher par?

A few Celtic fans have been on here recently and they likened him to Jermaine Jenas for his extraordinary skill of disappearing during matches. I was under the impression that he was a Sgt. Wilson type player, yet I've been informed that he's a box to box player. The Celtic fans also couldn't believe that we would be prepared to pay the reported £8-10 million for him. I can see why.

I know that we shouldn't judge players on one appearance, but come on, he was useless. If there's anyone out there that believes he would be a good signing, please come on here and explain why, because so far, even his supporters have said that he's not good enough, and going on yesterday's charade, I can see why.

Harry, we really could do without another hot and cold player.

Other news that that won't go away is that Aston Villa are interested in signing David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas. Villa need to replace Barry, but I can't see why they would be interested in Bentley?

  1. He's nothing like JJ! Jenas disappears for a brief period of time only, while Brown doesn't turn up.

  4. Even the commentators didn't mention Brown being Celtic's outstanding player. In fact, they made no statements about him at all.

    I'm pretty sure that tells you something.
  5. Aiden McGeady is Celtic's best player by a long shot and i wouldn;t be suprised if Harry bids £10 million for him.

    To be fair to Scott Brown he was playing out of position last night (right mid) when he is much more effective in the centre. £8-10 million is alot of money for a hot and cold player but that's the going rate these days. Wilson Palicios was never worth £14 million but Wigan got their money
  6. Thats his 3rd game back after ankle surgery and he was being played out of position guy, not wise to base all of your judgements about him on this one game.
  7. on the other hand mcgeady did look quite good if we were in the market for a left winger - Brown was anonymous but the whole team with the exception of mcgeady looked pretty poor - Stoke or Hull quality (not wanting to tempt fate!)
  8. I've never watched Brown play but I'm assuming Harry sees something we don't if the rumors are true. I was more excited about Moussa Sissoko though because he is a younger player that can be molded into the midfielder we need. Again, I am basing my argument on scout reports that I have read. Youtube videos are always biased; fun to watch though. What do you think of Sissoko? Who would THBN recommend instead of Brown?

  9. Palacios has been well worth the money, given the team's form since he's arrived :) - makes everyone look better though unfortunately we will suffer without him if he gets injured/sent off, which is why I think Harry is considering Brown as cover.

    I don't think it's a good deal though, I remember Celtic forums saying they'd snap our hands off for 8m for Brown. Personally I'd just leave him and develop JOH more, he's limited but so is Brown and at least JOH loves the club and puts in committed performances (nice shot on him too).
  10. A fuuly fit brown has unbelievable energy and covers every blade of grass. hes just back after surgery and is nowhere near full fitness and was also out of position. He has good skill and can drive past players for fun. The only thing he needs to improve to be the complete midfielder is his shooting and tidy up his passing a wee bit. Given how avereage players move in england for vast amounts of money £10m for brown is not over the top given his outstanding displays against the likes of man utd last season.
  11. Brown is a better player than he showed last night and is finding his way back after surgery. Rangers looked favourites to get him at first, but he knocked them back. This, of course, attracts negativity from the blue half of Glasgow.

    Is he worth £8 million? Only teams in Madrid or the EPL would consider it, but he is much better value than Barry at £12m, Hutton at £8m or Downing at £12m.
  12. I also heard a rumour that JOH could be part of the deal for Brown, either permanent or on loan with a view to buy. Anyone hear this?

    Brown has the potential to be a quality player. If Harry can scrape of the rough edges we will a little gem in our team. His work rate is tremendous aswel as his dribbling through the centre. A very direct player.
  13. Spurs fans, Its a bit unfair to judge Brown on last nights performance. He played 20 mins against Dinamo 80 mins v Aberdeen and then the Arsenal game. No pre seasons games whatsoever but we were desperate so we had to play him. Will be great in a year or two and is still v young. Has a gallas (Glasgow slang not the Arsenal player) attitude and fears no-one. Id like him to stay at Celtic but we couldnt refuse big money for any player.

    Actually Donati is a far better player. No really!! You can have him for 500,000. In fact Celtic would maybe pay you 500,000 to take him off our hands...
  14. I have watched Brown for two seasons now. Didn't rate him when he signed, don't rate him now and if Spurs or any other club have £10m bid in mind for him then I would indeed, grab their hand off. He can run up and down granted (when fit) but combine that with an inability to pass, inability to time a tackle, lack of vision or tactical nous and extremely poor finishing. With Brown, you get what you saw last night - with a little bit more running when he fully recovers from ankle injury...

I'm a celtic fan i and i do agree that £10 million for brown is a bit pricey ,however, judging by the money that gets splashed around in the premier league then this kind of price is the going rate for a decent midfielder and celtic should be looking for no less. Downing, barry, palicios, bentley!!, darren bent, crouch. The list is never ending of overpriced players. I would disappointed if we got any less than 10 for him even though he is no where near worth it... yet!
  16. I didn't realise he was playing until the 2nd half. Again I tuned in to see what all the fuss is about. Game was poor, Arseenal were poor (which isn't a bad thing of course) and Brown was poor. Most exciting thing about the game was the glass of new Mango and Pear juice I poured myself shortly after Scums second lucky goal.

    We'll I'm no authority on player purchases, but I would also like Sissoko at the Lane. I've seen him on a couple of occasions and he was okay in the first match I watched him in and magnificent in the second match.

    Toulouse want stupid money for him though.

    Whoever said that Sgt. Wilson isn't worth the £14 million we paid for him needs their head checked.

    The general consensus regarding Brown is that he's an okay player, but nothing special.

    I'd keep that £8-10 million and play Huddlestone.

  21. Aiden McGeady is the Celtic man we should want. When he's on form he's an absolute terror down the wings and would allow Modric to shift inside.

    I'm actually surprised there's been very little talk about McGeady. Maybe he's not for sale but if he is we should be in the thick of it if we're willing to spend more.

    If 'Arry bid £10 million for McGeady I wouldn't be surprised if he was told to get jogging and sent back to London with his arse skelped for being so cheeky.
  23. Agreed, I have to believe McGeady would be more in the 15-18 million range. Probably overpriced but why would Celtic let one of their best men go for anything less than overpriced?

Brown's not worth buying but we might pick up Aiden and use him as squad cover to annoy you pricks! P.S. I'm Glaswegian and not a Gers fan before you say it, I just know more about football than you evidently and Celtic are average to poor. Arsenal didn't even have to try last night cos your team was terrible. They always struggle vs Spurs these days! Watch some real football, Tommy, Glasgow.
  26. Our reserves/Under 19s bet a relatively strong Spurs side last month so we are clearly not a 2nd rate side. It's quite embarrasing that with the amount of money you spend you still get no where near a top 7 finish. Spurs are a better team than Celtic only because they have much more money to spend and because of the league they are in. However Celtic are a far BIGGER club. If we were in the Premier league, we would be walking all over teams like yours within a few years, after having some cash to spend. It won't be long until we're there so you better watch out.

    Also Aiden McGeady would sell for no less than £12 million.
  27. Im celtic fan who lives in London, and when I was younger I followed tottenham and still do so I know alot about both sides.

    Scott Brown is a player who is a bit hit and miss, last season he had a good season he has tremendous energy and drive but I do think he is overrated by some. Just like Jenas you will see him play to a very high level is a game and know that he can turn it on then in others just think he is average.

    I do like Brownie but I will state that I do not think he is the player for spurs, not that he would be bad but I think if spurs are looking for that top four spot they need someone who is a lot more consistent
  28. Hi I,m a Celtic and spurs fan predominently a Celtic though, I was at the game on tuesday and though Celtic did quite well til the 1st goal.

    Brown is very much unproven, consistently he has not produced outstanding performances however there have been flashes of brilliance. He has the potential to be a top player and could develope well at a club like spurs surrounded by better players. At the moment he is a 6 million pound player but has the potential to be a 10 million pound player.

    On the other hand McGeady is an 8 million pound player with the potential to be a 12 - 15 million pound player, only way he can reach his potential is to leave Celtic though.

    I,m surprised no spurs fan has mentioned boruc because he is a far superior keeper than Gomez who is now injured!!

  30. Spurs supporters, for some reason, truly believe that they are on par with Arsenal.

    Because of this, they consider Arsenal walking all over Celtic to be the same thing as Spurs walking all over Celtic.

    Sad but true.
