Is Keane interested?

Today's friendly showed me exactly what I had feared; Robbie Keane simply isn't interested anymore.

I know it's only a preseason friendly, but Keane's displaying the same attitude he showed before jumping ship to Liverpool and towards the final few games of last season.

He's not running, not shouting, not pointing and not interested.

Is it time we waved good-bye to him, or am I just being paranoid? I hope that I am wrong and that he can get some of his heart back before the start of the season.

I do fear that if he keeps up this attitude, the majority may turn on him and when that happens, I'd expect him to pack his bags.

On another note, all this talk about Pavlyuchenko needing rest could turn out to be a red herring. I even gave him the benefit of the doubt and said that we lay off him as I am sure he'd come good.

He did show some signs of the £13.8 million player we signed, but his lazy steak is still very much part of the Pav Package.

  2. Both Pavlyuchenko, Bent and Keane can go for all I care. All 3 are mercenaries and a complete waste of our clubs resources and time.

    Okay, so Bent scores a fair few, but he needs about 7 chances on average in a game before he can put one away.

    Pav is a lazy buggar.

  6. Not a Spurs fan myself, but I'm pretty surprised how quickly you guys are to criticise a player that's scored so many goals for your club, just because he didn't seem to show heart during one half of a pre-season game littered with reserve players.
  7. Keane was going nuts, shouting and point just as much as normal. He did the same in the Barca game telling rose et al where he wanted the ball played. He did not have a great game but that was because of the shocking lack of service to any of the front players. We really need a midfield dynamo to sit alongside Palacios. What worries me is that the focus is so much on centre back and centre forward that we are still missing a heart to the team. The Hudd and Palacios cant play together as a midfield pair, so its probably Jenas and Palacios but that limits us. Gudjonson played well in that role for Barca... perhaps we could do worse than go for him?

  9. Keane did look totally out of it and Bent was just Bent all over - one-dimensional with a rubbish conversion rate.
    Shame we lost but some of the kids (apart from poor old Dervitte) looked pretty tasty.
    Livermore looked like a top talent, as did Bostock. Big, strong kids with something about them and a good touch on the ball.
    Livermore has a bit of the devil in him, too - an excellent stand-in for Willie P.
    Not sure why we don't try Bale as wide left midfield. Is he injured or just so far out of favour?
  10. The fact is that he's been displaying this lacklustre attitude for about 10 games now, so it's not a new thing at all.

    Get your facts straight, we (or at least I do) spend a lot of money on 3 season tickets for my two daughters and myself each year. So yes, I am qualified to pass judgement on a player if it is plainly obvious that there is a problem with him.

  13. Sorry, but leave Keane the f**k alone. This guy over the years has worn his badge with pride. He has pointed, shouted and chased for so many years. WHAT HAVE THE REST OF THE TEAM DONE! Bent scored goals last season....more than others, and Pav will take the leauge by storm next season. Leave them all alone, get off there backs, and stop moaning. What will be, will be with transfers. I think we will be challenging top 6 this year, top 4 next. Redknapp is a dealer of top reputation and i believe he knows what he is doing. Why rip apart a team that rose from bottom to 8th in half a season, and get a load of new players that have to get used to everyone. Get crouch, young or upson......done! Stop whining and get behind the boys. Rant over.........a true spurs fan.

  16. If I had to return to work for a previous employer after getting a new job at a better company I too wouldn't be motivated. It was a panic buy in January and we'd have been better off without him.

  18. Bale had a knee op at the end of the season and is still recovering.... Still not convined he wont be sold tho which is a shame because I think he could be a real talent if he regains his pre last season form... Id still pick him over BAE any day

  21. Anyone who doesn't see every minute of every game shouldnt even bother commenting. Robbie Keane has come back and made a HUGE difference, I cannot believe the people who can't see that. Our whole attack is based around this player, he cannot be replaced.

    The comment about Bent needing 7 chances per goal is ridiculous, he was our top scorer and hardly ever played.I wouldn't be surprised if he converted 30-40% of his chances.

  24. I wouldnt be too bothered if he left us if we get huntelaar. He gave us nothing today and on friday, i only hope he will get better once the season begins. Encouraging from Livermore and Bostock though, Rose was never in the game and Naughton looked good enough. Some good younguns coming through, I hope we can add Delph to our squad, some real quality youngsters may save us some pennies in the future with the likes of townsend, mason, smith, obika, caulker coming through.
  25. It doesn't matter what we think when they get on the field they need to be cheered not jeered. I too think Bale should play L midfield or perhaps even give Rose the chance to shine. We have several hungry youngsters that want to play perhaps it is time to give them their chance. If bent needs five shots to get one goal then give hime the ball ten times. Andy Cole was much the same but they kept passing him the ball knowing that eventually one would in. So it would be Defoe and Bent for me up front
  26. Oh and one more thing for those up Keane's arse - you are no better a fan than those who can stand up and admit it when a player is not good enough for Spurs anymore. It is because we love the club that it frustrates us so much when we stick with players that just dont have what it takes. Jenas is another one, but I wont go into that now.

    The guy has scored over 100 goals for us. He left the club for just over 6 months, but some on here are going on about it like it was 15 years. You don't suddenly become a bad player in 6 months.

    I'm glad it's Redknapp that chooses the team rather than some on here. He's played under Hoddle, Pleat, Santini, Jol, Ramos and now Redknapp and always come up first choice. There's a good goal-scoring reason for that.

  31. It is time that Spurs realised O'Hara is a real plodder. He is basically a squad player but with little creativity and how midfield needs that if it is to capitalise on Defoe. Another central defender should have been signed earlier as King is really not available anymore and his partner is 50-50 at best. Keane has lost his edge, whether it is mental or physical it does not matter, he is no longer a threat he was two years back. The good news is that there is some real promise in the youngsters.

    i in the past have been completly deluded by
    pre season results,
    we have sometimes played about 8 games and
    brushed the opposition aside in most of them.
    I have awaited the seasons start in breathless
    anticipation,
    only to see the lads play complete rubbish,
    although in this Wembley fiasco we looked like
    a pub team playing against pros dont read too
    much in it.
    The proof of the pudding will be to see how
    we fare against Liverpool on day 1.
    If we perform as at Wembley, we may as well not
    turn up, but i have a bit more faith in our
    managment than to be too despondent too early.
  34. I totally agree that keene has returned with an attitude and is not the player he was. This board has put a huge amount of money into managers to buy players, here we go again, we are talking Crouch! Well hurrah lets have another 2nd class player. Oh, I can hear you all "he's an England striker," put it in perspective his highest tally of premiership goals in a full season is 12!!!! If you buy 2nd class you remain a 2nd class.

    JD looked sharp to be fair and young Jake Livermore I think will be a star one day..
    I love Keane to bits but he hasn't really shown much this pre-season...think his spell at the scousers has affected him quite a lot...one goal in the prem and it could spark him off again though....

Dos Santos (gio) has been a revelation for Mexico give this guy a chance, Keane knows he is 3rd choice striker he can either battle for his place or move yet again, Bent must go, my lads play at U10 level and are more clinical in front of goal, Crouch will give options. Bostock and Livermore looked class age is irrelevant Glenn Hoddle made his debut at 17 think Bostock can do the job. CB needs cover now. Dervitte must go seen girls teams tackle better.
  39. Guys, i know keane pretty well and i can tell you for the last 2 years both his ankles are in a bad way. You may have noticed but he has lost a yard of pace and his sharpness. Its not public knowledge yet but he may not have much of a career left which is a shame. SPURS COMMUNITYS - SWITCHER..
  40. Dervite had a poor game, but is still a top prospect. I have full faith that he'll come through and be a fixture in the starting xi within 18months.

    As for Keane, I hate to say it but he hasn't been the same since he came back at all. He isn't going to be starting and that is going to grate on him even more. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him pusjed out to the left wing, but I'm not sure he'd feel the same way.

    I also don't think Pav will leave. He can't dribble or run and has a terrible first touch, but when it comes to finishing he's excellent. He's a man that needs a perfect delivery, but I can see him having a good season as a sort of super sub
  41. The reason Spurs started winning was due to Palacios signing....NOT ROBBIE KEANE! The bloke is way way way past his best and Liverpool discovered that and I can't believe we even contemplated bringing him back after getting such a good price for him!! He has no pace, doesn't score goals, doesn't create things, moans, ineffective and lazy. And the fact he left us at the point we needed him to stay (ie knowing Berbatov was going) shows him up for the person he is! He is never a captain and in my opinion shouldn't be anywhere near the Spurs first team judging him on ALL of his performances since his return. F*CK OFF TO CELTIC KEANE!!!
  42. Keane ain't interested, but thats not surprising considering the fact he wanted out to liverpool. Pav was not that hot either but before defoe got injured last season and we went back for PSB, he and defoe were starting a good pairing.

    maybe its time we put modder's and palaciios in middle with something like rose and lennon on the wings might aswell be trying it now before the new season as were already out of ideas getting beat by Celtic reserves.

    and yes - agree placios was brilliant, and King playing more matches certainly had a big impact.

  45. Dos Santos is a player. Pav will be way better this year (last year was too long for him) Ohara isn't a PL player.Livermore and Naughton look to be the real deal. I'd rather see Bale at LB and BAE at LW. Huddlestone's passes are sublime and Redknapp needs to get him in week in week out. Spurs must get experienced help at CB. Lennon must learn to cross. Jenas is a waste of space. My starting XI would be Gomes, Bale, Chimbonda, Huddlestone, Corluka (until King, Dawson and Woodgate can play), BAE, Palacios, Modric, Lennon, Pav, Dos Santos. Livermore, Keane (great off the bench) and Naughton would be my first three off the bench. If we sign Crouch, Bent and Defoe should go. Uni-dimensional players. Sell on Jenas, Bent, Defoe, Bostock and Dervite need time as well
  46. What I've noticed with Keane is he's more prominent alongside a striker who holds the ball up well. He initially flourished as Sheringham's partner, a lesser extent with Freddy Kanouté and Mido but more so with Berbatov.

    Now, he has to do more work and I think the Liverpool experience shook his confidence. I truly believe he was thinking that the move and the idea of playing alongside Torres would be his partnership with Berbatov times ten. Within our striker force Pavlyuchenko has yet to find his feet after a grueling 16 months and Darren Bent doesn't have that skill in his repertoire as he is just the point man - a trait he shares with Michael Owen.

    Crouch is surprising fleet of feet and does hold the ball up very well so if Keane does partner him he may do well; however I really see 'Arry partnering the skinny giant with Defoe, which leads to me another thing. Will Keane leave? I really cannot see him tolerating a role on the bench for an extended length of time…

Firstly it was a pre-season friendly, a training game with nothing to play for, uncommitted tackling, experimental line ups and kids being bloodied. Lok at the second Celtic goal - does anyone think any professional team would concede a goal like that in a proper match? The guy jogged 50 yards unchallenged - nobody could be bothered to chase him. Pre-season is not real football so stop making these ludicrous judgements. Re Keane, he is a true great. He's ben our best player for nye on a decade - the only one really worth watching post-Ginola. People spouting the kind of written above should wash their mouths out - they will be looking VERY stupid in a few months time. As for Keane's ankles being dodgey - really? And he passed two medicals for millions of pounds with those injuries, did he? Bullsh*t.

I don't think Keane should have come back to us as he knew he'd let us down and this probably caused his drop in performance as well as a chronic lack of self belief after his Anfield experience. I would have thought most yids would want a year of stability but it seems not, why don't we ship out 7 or 8 players get in a stream of unproven Carlos kickaballs and see how that works.....

R.Keane (I will just point even when Im running for the ball,shout when my teammates give the ball away even tho i give it away more than them,cant tackle,no speed,cant head the ball,will take the free kicks and score the odd penalty,but I will miss 5 out of 6 chances Im presented but Bent is not as good as ME !,even tho he scores double the goals in half the appearances,I will act like an air traffic controller for every game but I can and DO KISS HARRYS ARSE at EVERY opportunity...CAPTAIN good God Bill nicholson woyuld turn in his grave and through in JENAS and GOMEZ into that catagory..what is Harry thinking ??????
