The Irony of Redknapp

So then, it looks as though Crouch will sign sometime next week and it also looks likely that Darren Bent will be wearing the red and white of Sunderland.

In my opinion (and as my dad says; opinions are like bum holes....everybody's got one), signing Crouch for £10 million could be a good bit of business.

If indeed Levy holds out for £15 million and Bent goes the other way, we'll be in profit.

Portsmouth manager, Paul Hart, spoke about the spending of Harry Redknapp whilst he was Pompey boss and how that extravagant spree has now deterred Hart from going out and spending the same type of cash as his predecessor.

Harry, who bought Crouch from Liverpool in 2007 for £9 million, stated this week that the £12 million wanted for Crouch was just too much.

How ironic then that Portsmouth agreed to accept a £10 million offer for Crouch from the very manager that put them in this predicament. For if Harry hadn't spent all their money, Portsmouth would have been in a position to decline our overtures.

You can't fault Harry on his transfer dealings. Or maybe you can? Some posters on here said they are fed up of how disrespectful Harry can be and that he shouldn't talk about the players he's interested in public.

I see their point, but at the end of the day, if this tactic works......

Hopefully they sign Crouch and he forms a great partnership with Defoe again. Maybe they'll add Distin and Kronkjaer to really get the party started. Spurs will break th etop 4 this year you'll see! As for Bent £15M to warm our bench seems like a decent back up to me.

  7. The transfer market is a cut throat business, And Harry is better than most at playing this game. Every manager speaks about players they want to sign a some point or another. The media has been become a tool for the succesful managers and your a fool if you dont use it to clinch deals. Would fans realy be happier if players just turned up without any notice or speculation. I certainly wouldnt.

    North London in itself has very little to offer bot of course is within easy reach of the city and the west end.

    Suderland without doubt used to be a dump - much like North London. Sunderland is anow a city on the up and has a wonderful beach and is very close to the beautiful city of Newcastle and also the National Park of Northumberland.

    To get back to the real subject though - Harry Reknapp is a twat of the first order and no Steve Bruce did not actually go public on Darren Bent. Blame Harry again for leaking it to the press. He should be up in front of the FA for tapping up. It is a very thin line he walks. One day I suspect he will see justice.

    Its beyond me how people can be so narrow minded. I am a Sunderland fan and have had the unfortunate experience of living in London for 2 years.

    Some have mentioned how Sunderland fans have a new found arrogance. You will find that is not the case. We are realistic about the forthcoming season and I for one will take 10th now.

    London is overcrowded, busy, over priced and full of people who ironically are arrogant.

    Spurs are a bigger team at the moment and their recent history has seen them have greater success. Sunderland have a history which has seen them as English champions 6 times albeit the last time was in the 1930s - this is a pointer to the potential of Sunderland....that and the size of the crowds, the stadium (bought and paid for), the academy (bought and paid for), the manager, the chairman and the billionaire owner. Sunderland will never get around the fact that London is more of a drawer (although perhaps the desire of players to be within taxi commute of Chinawhite is a pointer to their makeup) but even that should prove no obstacle to a club on the up.
