Championship Player, £12 Million

Good morning fellas.

Is it me, or does it look an awful lot like Downing's agent is trying to fob him off on us practically every second of his life?

Yesterday I read that Downing is progressing well and could be fit by September.

Today I've read that Boro are open to selling Downing, but for no less than £12 million. That's £12 million Sterling by the way, not Turkish Lira.

I've ranted and raved about us not signing Downing for the past 3 years, but it looks as though our previous 4 managers have had a different view.

That's right, all this started with Santini (remember him) and it looks like it will end with Harry.

I can see us signing him. Let's just hope he's not another player we sign and then sell at a 50% loss 12 months later.

  2. I think this could well end up in an Andy Reid type situation, the club get so obsessed about buying a player the forget that he isnt actually that great!
  3. Not sure why so many people have a downer on Downing. He is young , English and worth 12 million (no more) in my opinion. He is quick skillfull and has a decent cross on him.
    I would take him at that much, I am sure he is 23 or 24 years of age and would be a good buy.

I personally struggle to see how four manangers of reasonable quiality can want to sign someone as rubbish as Stuart Downing, the man has spent his career in a bottom half premiereship team surrounded by rubbish players and has still not managed to stand out as he should if he has any talent what so ever. The man has two things going for him he’s English and he uses his left foot other than that he is crap, all I can do is PREY that Harry is just going to forget about him and use what little budget we have this season on decent players.
  5. I don't see how being English helps him play better football.
  6. The words "Downing" & "Fast", "Quick" or "Pace" should never exist in the same sentence as neither one applies.

    The lad is English and has a left foot. But then again (as said within one of the comments) what does English have to do with it?

    I am sure their are far better left-footed players out there.

    Porto's Cristian Rodriguez is a far better option (and Harry had a look at him last season).

    Let's hope this Downing rubbish stops.
