Will Spurs Qualify for the Europa Cup if we Lose the Carling Cup Final?

From what we've read, if we lose to Manchester United on Sunday, 1st March 2009 in the Carling Cup Final (or League Cup Final if you're old school), we won't qualify for the Europa Cup (UEFA's attempt to revamp the faltering UEFA Cup), even if Manchester United have already qualified for Europe via winning the league, league placing or winning the F.A. Cup.

The same criteria applied to last seasons cup triumph over Chelsea.

  5. No if we loose to man u then it will go to 6th finish in the prem. We dont deserve to be in europe anyway. Everyone was o so happy to qualify for europe last season yet this season cuz we have been so poor in the prem european football is just an annoying fixture gettin in the way of much needed prem points. Lets think about europe when we have 11 players with heart en spirit with bollocks to win games. COYS!!!!
  6. It's always been that you have to win the league cup!
    If the winner has already qualified the UEFA spot drop to the next highest place in the league (6th in this case)
    The losing finalists in the FA cup DO qualify for UEFA if the winners have already qualified. If they have also qualified then the spot drops to the next league place (6th if we win the league cup, 7th if ManUre do)
    It's always been this way so this is a pointless blog post!!!
  7. The best league finish we had and when we nearly/should of got 4th we had no europe so maybe a blessing in disguise.
  8. The losing FA Cup finalists are no longer eligible for Europe either.

We have 16 games left - if we win all of them we end up on 69 points - a very positive double whammy.Not only do we avoid relegation but we qualify for the champions league.OK we might lose a few points here and there but we could still make 6th with 55 to 60 points. Over optimistic ? - if with new signings and 'Arry can start working his positive magic again then who knows?Think positive!! Ok it would be simpler to beat Man U in one match ! ( but that still leaaves the problem of the league...

  14. I thought the rules had changed so that neither of the cups qualified you for Europe? Personally I think the FA cup winners should get the 4th Champions League place to keep the competition alive.
  15. You know what will happen though, Taarabt will shine as always when he plays and Ferguson will start on about him and United will sign him before the end of the January window

  17. Is there not a FIFA/UEFA rules thats states if you win three cups then you are exempt from any relegation. Hence it will be fourth from bottom, lets hope its the spammers.
    ps If there isnt, there should be!

  21. Yes, I want to win the Carling Cup, but i don't want this team in Europe next season. It gets in the way so much. Pointless games & an incredibly long drawn out affair. We end up going to places even the credit crunch hasn't heard of. Our best season was when we did not have the distraction of Europe & nearly got the 5th place on the last day. Now its called the Europa cup, sounds even worse & even more second rate. COYS, how nice for us when we're in so much disarray to be playing Man U 4 possibly 5 times in a season !
