£14.5 million for Downing?
What's the world coming to? Do our board, and more importantly, our manager, feel that Stewart Downing is really worth £14.5 million? Let's just recap; £14.5 million for Stewart Downing.
Being Spurs fans, we seem to have lost sense with financial reality, especially after spending in the region of £33 million on Darren Bent & David Bentley. But surely we as a club have learned from our mistakes?
How on earth is Downing worth £14.5 million? I hope that this rumour is untrue. If though, by a miracle, this story is accurate, and we have bid £14.5 million for Stewart Downing, then I can't, for one minute believe that we have the financial clout to build the proposed new stadium. We'll be publishing an article on stadia financials at a later date.
What I can foresee, is that all the overtures made by Steve Gibson (who in my opinion happens to be the best footballing chairman anywhere) in an attempt to stop Downing from leaving will fail.
The question is what price will we have to pay for him?

If they really didn't want Downing to leave, they could have released the following statement;
"Tottenham Hotspur have not tabled a third bid as stated in some media sources.
"Any forthcoming bid, whatever the price, will be declined.
"Stewart Downing signed a new contract with us 11 months ago and we expect him to honour that"
Instead, all they said was that no 3rd bid was made. It's like they're asking Levy to make the 3rd bid.
I can see us getting the lad for a stupid fee.
Oh well, that's the club we love.
Nearly as many people that want Downing, also want Cristian Rodriguez, and I doubt many have even seen Rodriguez play.
Go for Babel and end this ridiculous pursuit of a player that's clearly not worth even half of what has reportedly been bid!
