Heskey looks set to sign

A lot of reports are claiming that England target man, Emile Heskey, is close to completing a £5.5 million moved from Wigan Athletic to Tottenham Hotspur.

How true are all these media reports? Who knows? If he's in a Spurs shirt by the 12am deadline, then I'll personally be extremely happy with this bit of business.

I may be in the minority, but I feel that signing a player like Heskey will prove a master-stroke for the club.

The target man has never been known in a positive manner for his games to goal ratio. What he has been known for though, are his other qualities. He's perfect at bringing in his team-mates into play. His ability to hold up the ball may be just what our team needs, especially if Bent and/or Pavlyuchenko are playing off him.

Before I get completely slated for my comments, please remember all that he has done when he's played with out-and-out strikers.

  2. I think the one definit transfer we should have made at the end of last season was Comoli out and bring in someone who knows how to negotiate with big clubs.

  5. Well I am happy someone has actually agreed.

    He'll make a great squad player and is the type of player that compliments any striker he plays with.

    Don't expect him scoring more than 12 a season, but expect him to make at least 20 goals.

  7. I'd rather have Heskey than no-one until January's window. For £5m he'll do a job, and he won't be the worst transfer of the day if the rumours about Joey Barton are true.....

  10. I am sure that if he does end up joining Spurs, he won't play every game.

    As a lot of you have said; if he signs for around £5 million, then he'll be a great signing.

    At 30 (or 31), he's not worth more than that anyway.

  11. Is this a wind up? All the strikers we've been linked with this summer, and the best we can do is Emile Heskey? Complete joke. If this happens then its a disgrace. Sorry, no offence to Heskey but he's a mid-table player at best. We must keep Berbatov and not get Heskey. If we cant get a great player in for Berbatov then we simply dont sell him.
  12. Please dont let this be true. How much ambition do we have by letting a world class player like Berbatov leave and replace him with HESKEY??

    I'll be gutted. We've been linked with some of the best in the world and we come up with someone that nobody wants (apart from Wigan)...

    I'd cancel Pekhart's loan and give him a go instead. He's even at the bottom of the list of people I WOULDN'T want (which includes Owen, Saha etc).

  14. belfspur i have supported spurs for 40 years ,and seen a few false dawns.sometimes big stars dont work out ,and sometimes we are not as big a club as we think,hence players like huntelaar,villa dont want to sign for teams out of the cl .

  17. I've only supported Spurs for 30 years and I've seen enough false dawns.

    How come we can spend apparently £50M yet still be beaten by Sunderland at home (the same Sunderland who get beat 3-0 to City at the weekend).

    The only hope we had was that we would pick up some players that the other 15 teams (not including the "top 4" or us) would give anything for and players that could have us breaking into that top 4. Is that too much to ask? Especially after £50M?? Liverpool & Arsenal haven't spent that?

    So, we go for Heskey... & we have people happy with that???
  18. We should replace berba and keane with fellow members of the footballing profession, not a load bearing mule. This will dissapoint the vast majority if true, we have become used to ball to feet football, intellect and guile. It looks like we've now gone for the bolton approach, division 1 football with better crossing, bent, pav and hesky, mmmm that's gonna be fun to watch.
