Spurs look at Johnson

If certain reports coming out of the North-East are true, then it would seem that Juande Ramos has turned his attention to Middlesbrough left winger, Adam Johnson.

The players agent this morning stated that "a Premier League club from London has made an enquiry as to the availability of Adam [Johnson].

"Middlesbrough have made it clear that Adam [Johnson] is wanted at the club, but will not be picked ahead of Downing. I have been told that if an offer was to come in, Middlesbrough would seriously consider it".

If we do fail in the attempted signing of Diego Capel from Sevilla, I wouldn't mind us signing Adam Johnson. The lad isn't the finished article, although he has shown an enormous amount of potential and could be bought on the cheap. Some football pundits have even gone as far as stating that Johnson is a better player than Downing.

  1. He'd be okay, but if we can't get Capel we should go for Thiago Neves - this guy is gonna be the next big thing from Brazil. Six foot tall, great goal scoring record, only 23. Check out his goal for Brazil the other day. Left winger par excellence.

    there have been no reports coming out of teeside saying anythin of that bull, infact the opposite like him saying "he wants to stay" and southgate saying "his an anazing talent" you obviously dont kno much if you think boro would give away one of the hottest proporties in england on the cheap when hes under contract???? steve gibson boro chairman would never go for it.

  3. There are no reports coming out of the north east linking Johnson to Spurs. This story appears to be a complete fabrication.

  5. Apologies for my illiterate fellow Boro fan but he's right - hopefully you managed to spot enough English to make out what he was saying.

    No chance we are selling him - he's rated more highly than Downing by many and you've failed to lure him several times. With 7 subs available this season he will get his opportunity to play plenty of games for Boro which is what he says he wants to do.

    Personally I think he needs to kick on a bit this season as he's not really taken his chances when he has played for the first team - a bit like Aaron Lennon - lots of fancy footwork but little end product when it counts. But he's young so I think his day will come and its likely to be at Boro not at Spurs.

Why is it that as soon as Johnson is quoted in a northern paper as saying he might look at his options in the future if he cant break into the team, then the southern press start these scurrilous rumours about Spurs buying him . . He doesnt want to leave, he just wants more first-team opportunities. You tried the same thing with Downing, trying to unsettle our talent.

    We dont have a vast scouting network and an academy par excellence just so teams can come and poach the outstanding players we are producing.

    I do think that Spurs are crying out for a Johnson/Downing and it would be a huge piece in your jigsaw, but they just arent available, get over it. Why would we sell future England stars on the cheap after spending years nurturing their talent. .

  11. Really, Adam Johnson is one of the best prospects to look out for in English football. But with the mass turn merry-go-round of players you have at white hart lane, why would he waste his time joining you? Boro have a proven track record of promoting young stars, yet, how many have you puched through your ranks in recent years? apologies if i'm wrong, but o'hara is the only one i can think of! ... and we all know he isnt even on johnsons scale, or you wouldnt even be rumoured to be bringing him in!

Please note that we neither want or need Johnson or Downing, we have Giovani, Modric, Bale, O' Hara (all better than Johnson and Downing!) to play on the left hand side.   16. In the last 10 years Spurs and Boro's records have been very similar, both in terms of our average league positions and cup finals etc, look it up some time Spurs fans, you might be suprised. As for Johnson, you'd be better off trying to hang on to your own players first, we lost Viduka and Yakubu and struggled, Spurs without Keane and Berba will do the same, h'mmmm another similarity, how ironic

Similarities between spurs and boro? on one hand a team who encompasses mediocrity from fan base to history, and on the other a team which strives to achieve with a vast and loyal fan base a rich history and a promising future why waste money on downing or johnson now when they will be available for a lot less next season when you get relegated.
