Middlesbrough 2 - 1 Spurs: Match Analysis

Tottenham Hotspur started off the 1st half fairly well, keeping possession and interchanging play.

Boro soon saw the various flaws that were apparent to all in the Riverside.

Even with Bentley & Lennon on the wings, both players seemed to be pulling into the centre, leaving large areas of play for Boro to exploit. And exploit it they did.

The home side commanded large parts of the 1st half.

Tottenham came out stronger in the second half but Boro still stuck to their game plan and kept us at bay.

Berbatov & Bale came on and changed things a bit, but Wheater (who scored a perfectly okay goal that was disallowed in the 1st half) got on the end of a Afonso Alves header of the cross-bar.

We came close with a few shots off target, but then Mido stuck out a leg from Digard's shot to basically seal it.

An own-goal from Huth in the dying seconds proved too little, to late.

Modric wasn't involved in the game at all. A lot of the fans here around me have agreed that Modric needs time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League.

Things can only get better!

  1. Well things can't get any worse (can they?). Ramos's tactics and team selection need to be questioned and the team need to shut up about 4th place as it makes us a laughing stock when our players put in a sub-standard performance against an average team! Dreading the Sunderland game when we'll most likely be without our only saving grace - Berbatov!!!

  3. at last fellow yids agreeing..relegation form since feb..why is ramos not talking to press and us supporters. never been convinced by the man and fear we may go down..we lacked everything

  6. Beattie with Southampton – Johnson with Place – Philips with Sunderland -Davies with Southampton – Bent with Charlton.

    All scored a lot of goals over one or two years for there clubs none to top 6 material. The teams often got relegated with them scoring because they only focused on one player long balls etc and everything went through one player. That can not happen with the top sides.

    The goals often dried up with all these players and when they moved on after there teams where relegated they struggled

    Beattie with Everton – Johnson with Everton – Philips with Aston Villa – Davies with Blackburn – Bent with Tottenham.

    Bent does not have the quality to lead the line for Tottenham it is as simple as that…
  7. It's a case of same-old, same-old, isn't it? What an embarassment. For the third seaon in a row, my usual pre season excitement has been brought right back down to earth again with an embarassing defeat against teams we really, really should be beating if we are to stake a realistic claim to being a top 5 side.

  9. Early days yes, but Boro!!! Team selection was a little strange and I just hate playing 1 up front. Lets get back on track soon. King has got to start if fit. Jenas as captain worries me a hell of a lot.
  10. Dawson playing (crap) why was ledley not playing from the start, Bent (Crap) why wasnt berby playing from the start, why havent we bought a striker to replace keane. This team is going nowhere but down
  11. IN RAMOS WE TRUST !!!! My ASS !! All the pre season hype about Bent is as expected, just HYPE. Wake up Spurs, coz we are on course for a mid table finish if todays game is anything to go by. Can all you Ramos' arse kissers please tell him that this is the EPL(BPL) & not the Primera Liga. I watched the live telecast of the game in my home country, & the only consolation that eased my pain (temporarily anyways) was the fact that one of the commentators confirmed that Spurs spokesperson said that Berba has not put in a transfer request.

    Without Berba, we are screwed! Bent is rubbish!!
  12. i'm just so sick of this, we get rid of keane, berbatov is going, and look at who we bring in. a bunch of weak, useless midfielders. we have no bollocks in the center of the field and we've managed to lose to middlesborough.
    newcastle are probably gonna spank us twice this season, like they did last season too.

    Spurs played it around nicely in midfield without every really threatening (Reminded me of a poor mans Arsenal - don't shout!)

    But your weakness for a few seasons has been a midfield who won't get stuck in and a fragile defence. And nothings changed, the WHOLE midfield is just too lightweight to cope.

    Modric: Looked tidy but off the pace and is NEVER going to boss a midfield in the EPL.

    DosSantos: Looked like another Lennon.

    Bentley: Came in MUCH too often - his strength is crossing and the tactics underused it.

    Pre season EVERYONE was saying top4 or top6 for you - I honestly can't see that - you'll win some games 3:0 (Although who#s going to score I don't know!) with great football and the next week get bossed and beat by Wigan 1:0 etc.

    8-10th I'd say - based on your team - not just this game.
