Corluka?

It seems as though fairly reputable sources such as Sky Sports, and some other tabloids, are claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of signing yet another Croatian, Vedran Corluka.

He certainly impressed me at the Euro's, but then again, he was used as a right wing-back. Some have said that Juande Ramos wants Corluka as a replacement for Ledley King, who in Ramos' mind, won't make the entire season.

Fair enough, but why sign a right back to fill in for Ledders? Why not sign a younger player that is willing to learn his trade and comfortable with the fact that he'll be playing second fiddle to King & Woodgate.

Hold on a sec! Isn't that Dawson's job? After all, won't Dawson fill in for Ledley, just as he did last season? He did sign a new contract extension with the club only last week!

I have a strong feeling that this story is completely fabricated; most probably by Corluka's agent. I can't see us signing Corluka, especially when a central defensive midfield position should be filled.

  5. Yes crap article, firstly he is fairly young, secondly he is a Central Defender who CAN cover the right! Finally get a clue he is better than Daws!

  7. We need exactly this type of player to shore up a defence that is likely to be without LK for considerable stretches of time this season.

  9. I fear ledleys career is over. We were told he was being rested at the end of last season so he was fresh for pre season. So far he has hardly played. Personally i think his knee is swelling up badly after each appearance, this will get worse as the season goes on. We need a centre back desperatly especially with woody injury prone too. Anyone know how bad his current injury is ? Dawson is very good with a good centre back alongside him, with huddlestone we are fu**ed. We can beat teams the crap teams with a bad defence but will as always leak goals. If we can get a defender before boro it all looks good. This tottenham team looks special, 2 things we need are consistancy along with the ability to finish teams off.

  10. I think he'll play defensive midfield, in much the same way that Arsenal moved Flamini from left back to defensive midfield. He has all the credentials to be a top quality defnesive midfielder. I can see him forming a great partnership with Modric in centre midfield. He would help his former team mate and fellow countryman settle, and help with the language. I'm sure they would work a great undertsanding early on too. What a top signing this will be.
  11. Article clearly written by someone who knows nothing about Corluka. His best position is ultimately CB. He can also play RB and DM i needed but CB is what Ramos wants him for. Good job Juande!
  12. This would be an excellent signing, along with Petrov was probably one of City's best players and probably their most consistant. His versatilty would bring a lot to the squad and can only help Modric settle in quicker, I can't believe he is only 22!
  13. For all of you who are slamming PoshSpur's lack of knowledge of Corluka's eating habits and his favourite Croatian film, just remember that the article is cleverly titled "Corluka?" - the question mark is there for a reason ;-).

    Anyway, I think that if we DO sign Corluka, it will only have happened because we have already signed another Croatian. He and Luka could help each other to adapt to the English Premiership, and it would mean that Modric would be able to spend less time with his Arsenal pal Eduardo! :D
  14. Corluka isn't coming to Spurs. It all stems from an article written in the Telegragh last night and it seems every other Tom,Dick and Harry has decided to run the same story. The papers are getting really desperate now to fill those column inches. The funniest thing about it all is that Man City and Mark Hughes didn't even know anything about it. Says it all really.
  15. I am from Zegreb and I am supporting Dinamo, two years ago I was sure that Corluka is better player than Modric and Da Silva and that Dinamo will get more money by selling him. Corluka is superb player with great vision, movement and technical abilities. He is one of most inteligent player I saw in years. He can play as CB or DM BUT his natural position is RB and he is going forward all the times. Unfortunately, if he comes it will means that either he or Hutton will have limited time to play. Hutton is better defesively but Corluka is much better in attack and can play as CB and DM.
    All in all, I hope Tottenhamm will sign this but I doubt, City will be idiots if they sell him at that price, he is woth at least double,l let's say 15 M or something like that.
