Press Claim that Arshavin will Sign for Spurs

A fair few newspapers and other media sources such as Sky Sports News, have stated that Russian International, Andrei Arshavin, is close to signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

All I can say is that if these stories are true, then it would be a sensational signing for us! With David Bentley currently undergoing his medical, the capture of another Euro 2008 star (Modric being the other) would be absolutely fantastic!

What we already know about Arshavin, apart from the fact that his surname is somewhat disturbing, is that he can play as a withdrawn striker, or anywhere in midfield. Judging from the video below, he is also two-footed. Being 27, he's in his prime, and that prime is exactly what is needed at Spurs.

One thing which I did notice is that he's extremely tenacious. You won't see Arshavin shy away from a challenge. Some pundits have said that he'll be "way too fragile for the Premier League". Why do they say that? Are Michael Owen and Aaron Lennon "too fragile"?

If we do end up signing him (fingers crossed) then here's what we can all expect;

  1. Even if we sign him, he'll have a fab season with us and will then get tapped up by Barcelona and will end up leaving.

    The player himself has stated that he wants to play for us. Thats enough by my standards.

    Let's just say that he does have a fantastic season with us but then wants to leave. If we buy him for around the £20 million mark, the club that wants him can pay us nearer the £30 million mark.

    There will always be better footballers out there.

    The lesson I've learnt in football is that you should never get too attached to any players.

    They are members of staff, just the rest of us. If they want to go, then thanks for the memories and good bye.

    There's no point in crying over spilt milk.

    He will be a great addition to the team if we end up signing him.

  7. The lad is truly world-class. We all saw what he did against the best players in Europe at the Euro's.

    If we can get him, even at 22 million, then it'll be a snip!
  8. If we can link Arshavin with the likes of Bentley, Modric, Dos Santos and keep hold of Berbatov and then throw in marauding full bakcs like Hutton and Bale and we will be seeing fantasy football at WHL next season.
