Has Juande Persuaded Berbatov?

Training for the up and coming season has finally kicked off with a bang! The Mirror and the Daily Mail are back to their old tricks of poking fun at our superstar, Dimitar Berbatov, and more importantly, belittling Tottenham Hotspur with what I can only categorise as slur.

I suppose there is a sense of irony in their articles. I was under the pretence that Mr. Berbatov was paid by Tottenham Hotspur to train, play, and make other appearances when asked to.

I find it strange then, that the Mirror Editor asks John Cross (who just happens to be an Arsenal season ticket holder) to write an article on Dimitar Berbatov's return to work. Mr. Cross gleefully put the icing on the cake by titling his article; Dimitar Berbatov set for humiliating return to Tottenham.

Why some sections of the media insist on scorning our side, I will never know? "Dear Richard Wallace (the Daily Mirror Editor), why ask an Arsenal supporter to write the article? Why not select one of your other talented journalists?"

We can discuss the fact that a large section of the media seem to be gunning against Tottenham Hotspur, until the cows come home.

The reason why I submitted this article to THBN was to basically state that I think our manager, Juande Ramos, has done the unthinkable, and persuaded Dimitar Berbatov to stay at the club!

I am not an ITK, neither does my wife work in the hospital where David Bentley apparently had his medical. I am speaking from pure facts.

The man is back in training. Fact! He still has a remaining 22 months left on his contract. Fact! We have strengthened our squad considerably since January. Fact! No club has tabled a bid. Fact!

Unless we receive an offer that's above and beyond what he's worth, I can see Berbatov starting in our home match against Villa (13th September 2008 - after the summer transfer window has closed).

And to be honest, I truly hope he does.

  2. I can't see him staying though mate. Manchester United have the cash and will sign him probably on 31st August 2008.

  4. More than one bid has been table for Dimitar neither met the asking price though.
  5. I think he'll stay until next season. By then, his contract will only have 12 months to run. He'll leave next summer for around £11 million or worse, he'll sign one of those pre-contracts in January 2010 and leave on a free.
  6. we all know that the only reason why Berbs will stay is if no one makes an offer. My mate's gerbil works in the Old Trafford kitchens and tells me that Berbs has told Fergie that he only wants to go to Man U so they are waiting till the end of August as they think they can get him on the cheap as Spurs will not to let him run his contract down.
  7. Berba has 4 years left including an option for Spurs to extend. He wont be able to sign a pre-contract in january 2010 as Spurs will exercise the option

    We dont want to be scouring the market for a replacement on 31st August, otherwise we'll be ripped off and we'll buy rubbish.

    After July 31st he should be told he's staying no matter what bids come in.. end of.

  9. he may have 2 years left but we also have a 2 year option on berbatov, if we let Liverpool take Robbie for buttons then I'll give up, if they genuinely want him then we should go for Kyut plus £10million, that's ONLY if he demands to go.
    we just have to humiliate them in the press by stating there. Potless offers are insulting.
  10. Can anyone explain this "2 year option" business?

    Some say that if the club want to, they can extend Berbatov's contract by a further 2 years. Others say that that is pants and it means that only if their is a mutual understanding between the club and player can an extension take place.

    I'm more inclined to believe the latter.

    Anyone have real evidence or facts to say otherwise?

  12. I’m not too fussed what Daily mail and Mirror writers have to say about anything. I am however surprised that a Gooner managed to type an article as I was under the impression that they were bereft of opposable thumbs.

  14. Tottenham regularly put options of further years in a players contract.
    Steven Kelly was a prime example.
    He was being reported as moving to Brum on a Bosman, but Spurs then decided to take out their option of a further two years, then sold him to Brum instead!
    Spurs have a 2 yr option Berbatov, they also have a further 1 yr on Modric and Bent, who both signed 5 yr deals when bought.
    Spurs will not be losing anyone on a free transfer after what Judas did to the club.
    In effect, Berbatov signed a 6 yr deal when joined the club.
    Although it hasn't been extended as of yet, Spurs remain the only party who can say whether it gets extended or not.
    No way will Berbatov go on a Bosman or for a reduced price unless it is 2011(reduced price)or 2012(Bosman)
  15. 100% correct. Unfortunately, most people don't understand or care about the finer points of contractual obligations or law. Dimitar Berbatov signed a 4 year contract in the summer of 2006. He had written into his contract (by Mr Daniel Levy) due to Berbatov being a relatively unknown quantity, that Spurs were taking a gamble by giving him a 4 year deal, afterall, he could have turned our like Sergei Rebrov, that Spurs had the option of extending his contract by a further 2 years if the club felt this was appropriate. Now due to the added interest from many top European clubs, Berbatov is keen on a switch away from the club who made his career and trnsformed him from nearly man into world class forward but he and his agent are both forgetting the little 2 year extension clause in Tottenham's favour. If Spurs chose to (without the need of the players concent), they could force another 24 months on his contract making it a further 46 months he would remain a Tottenham Hotspur pla…

Why does everyone believe Berba is going to Man Utd.. theres obviously going to be interest from the biggest clubs for proven talent but if most reports are true then we havent even recieved an offer, not even one below the asking price as teams know it will be thrown out. Hewanschampions league footie so lets try and give it to him rather than offload and find sum1 shitter. In regards to keano, i hope he goes, his goals to shots ratio isnt great, he is slow, he is a pussy in the air and 9 out of 10 of his "tricks" which is basically a dumy dont come off. He had a good season but with the pace and creativity were aquiring in midfield it will simply be wasted on a man of his stature and ability

    Keane is a world class striker who scored as many as berbatov last year..... he's had 3 top class seasons with us, and if we lose him, we would certainly need to replace him.....

He has been a genuine servant to the club for 6 years, will that be enough to spare him from the inevitable abuse? In my opinion no, what do you think? Can you blame him for wanting champions league in the last furlong of his playing career?

  21. Berbs could leave next season if he wants. He just has to buy out his contract as he'll have served three years of it - a la the Webster clause. He'll go to Man Utd very soon for about £25m. Has anyone watched the video on the Spurs site of the lads training? Just look at his body language. The guy's off on his own away from the group. He doesn't want to be there. We should cash in and give Bent a run.
  22. There's been no doubt in my mind that the media has driven this berba saga from day one!! They seem to feel all top class players should play 4 the top 4 clubs only & u can see their irritation that berbatov is still at the club. But i do feel he will go eventually but only on OUR TERMS!!! I'm not being fooled by the apparent lack of interest i feel interested clubs r trying 2 b clever & r gonna wait until the end of the window and put in a derisory bid thinking we'll crumble. It won't happen!!!!
  23. This is the same trick the media normally play, we are normally linked with all and sundry, which must annoy fans of other clubs. This year it is a bit of our turn Robbie/Berba/Hudd/Bent. All being linked to clubs, Hudd has signed on the dotted line. It would be nice to hear some commitment from the other three, who I would like to see next season. But the links to these players are not different to us an Bentley I'm sure Blackburn fans are as annoyed with these rumours as we are over Berba. If he comes great. Spurs on the whole try to keep things as close to there chest as possible and of course rumours are sometimes proved right, but a lot more don't materialise at all.
  24. It's not just the malevolent media that started the Berba upsetting situation, it was also SAF the cunning old bugger. I am SO pleased Madrid are tapping up Ronaldo, giving SAF an unpleasant taste of his own medicine.
    After the capitulation with Carrick, Levy has developed a praiseworthy spine and Berb will realize he aint going anywhere - least of all to Old Trafford.
  25. not sure why everyone is getting bent (not Darren) out of shape about our best players being linked with moves, and having a go at Levy for "selling our best players". This would be true if he was pocketing the money, but it is safe to assume that he will give it to Juande to reinvest.

    Berba was hardly an unknown classless striker before coming to spurs. He had scored 20+ goals for the previous 3 seasons in the bundesliga I believe and players who play well over there tend to make the switch quite well to EPL
  27. Good things are happening at Spurs!

    We've signed one of the best players in Europe in Modric, Dos Santos should add some pace and flair and the signings of Woody and Hutton have been great should shore up the defence in front of that psycho octopus.

    What pis*ses me off is that if some good players are being signed, why wouldn't Berba and others alledgedly wanting out stay and make sure they are playing CL footer with Spurs next season.

    That way they have actually accomplished something instead of walking straight into a side that is already there.

    That and the fact that they'll know the players they are playing with already and with CL qualification, comes more money and more quality signings.

    I hope Spurs stand firm and if they do want out, we get top dollar for them. But I'd rather they stay and stop sulking and get on with it. It's not like we have a cr*p side now is it.
  28. Whether Berba is leaving or not, I think we should sign a striker. Bent is definitely leaving. We need 3 strikers at any time. If Keane is also leaving, we in fact should be signing 2!

  31. I couldn't agree more regarding John Cross and The Mirror. His latest headline is, Spurs snubbed by Russian, despite the players club only identifying the English team as not playing in the Champions League. No mention of Spurs. This so called journalist should be fired for a complete lack of impartiality.

  35. The media do seem to be massively against us! We are the supposed un-named club that have failed to sign Pavlyuchenko or snubbed as they prefer to put it.

    Surprised there hasn't been more about Berba before today/yesterday.

    More concerned at the speculation for Keane to be honest!
  36. Some useful clarifications of Berb's contract situation above.
    I think Berbs is staying because he wants to as is keane.Most of the transfer speculation is pure guff.
    In fact, I find it even worse this summer than previous ones-maybe if England had qualified for the euro finals some of these useless hacks would have had something worthwhile to write about?
    IMO the transfer market is slow this summer - hit by the credit crunch perhaps? We don't seem to be getting any worthwhile offers for players we need to offload and players we might want sound too expensive. Modric, Gomes and hopefully Dos Santos are good buys we still need a couple of others BUT not bit part players like Crouch.If Ramos is as tactically astute as we think then the Crouch story really does show the trash that's being written.

    Just they language they use. "Wantaway vice captain" -no proof of that. Then under the berbatov picture they say "berbatov keeps a low profile at training" as if he is really unhappy to be there. what do they expect him to be doing??

    also they have confused zokora with chimbonda in that picture which further shows the quality of that publication!!

I think a few folk should have a little word in his shell like to let he find out how many new friends he has.his direct number is 02 7510 6209. this will probably fire the prick up even more but a few letters to their editor from upset SPURS fans will help to settle them back down.
    On a more positive note i saw Clive alen and our youth squad this morning in the gym. I spoke to a few of the boys and they are all really excited about this season. I told them to wear our scared colours with pride and make sure you always play with passion. They seemed a good bunch. Clive Allen however is such a TOP MAN.

  42. anon 10:29 tomorrow is another day- so will see if it's fact or not.Still think Crouch is a bit part player so might be useful as a 4th striker - offers soemthing different to overcome stubborn defences etc. BUT would not want him as part of a main front pairing which I think will remain Keane & Berbs - we'd be nuts to get rid of either!
