Should Spurs sell Bent?

I believe the two-pronged fork that is Darren Bent's future can go one of two ways;

1. He will be sold.

2. Bent & Keano will strike up a superb partnership next season.

I doubt the latter will come to fruition as Juande Ramos seems to not regard our £16.5 million player as an asset.

There were countless times last season when Bent could have been used. Instead, he was either warming the bench, or was left at home.

In today's game, managers need not actually tell a player that they're not interested in them. Instead, some managers chose to just don't play them.

I really can't see Bent having any type of future at the Lane.

If the reports that Sunderland are prepared to pay in the region of £12 million for him, we should bite their hand right off!

If Darren Bent does leave, we'll be on the lookout for 2 new strikers as Berbatov's departure seems imminent.

I believe a closer look at the person responsible for bringing the likes of Bent to the Lane should be looked at more carefully.

  1. such a stupid article, towards the end of the season Bent was used more and scored more. He averaged a goal every 2-.5 games roughly if you look at mins on the pitch
  2. why sell him hes a good player when came on from bench hes done well an scored goals ive always said it please give a player a season to settle if he doesnt impove then sell him other then that pls, stop these articls
  3. i cant believe the two comments made so far.... Darren bent is a waste of money, and ultimately a huge disappointment. This is coming from a season ticket holder, and someone who works in football.

    I quantify this for the following reasons - 1) Can anyone see Darren Bent in the Champs league, because Spurs certainly aspire to be. 2) He's a great athlete, but he has no technical ability, nor confidence. I have only seen him try to beat someone once; beyond that he has held the ball and knocked it back in to the midfield, he's supposed to be a spearhead on the shoulder of the last Def. 3) Most of his goals have been headers or tap ins - i know all goals count for 1, but jesus we need more than an average poacher. 4) Every other team that Bent has had success at built their entire functionality and tactic around him; He's simply a big fish for a small pond, not a big fish for mixing with other big fish.

First time i have agreed with noname.Darren bent will be a great striker when we sell berby we cannot attract villa .santa .eto they want champions league bent is proven in the prem like defoe and we cant afford to strenghen any more teams otherwise we will be facing one of our players every week we need to keep our quality and get rid of average players tainio salteri robbo lee gardner chimbonda rocha if we got 15 mill for that lot it would pay for moderic and berbey would pay for bent dos santos and a top goaly and in january we can see were we are inthe league and use the rest of berbys money on strengthening
  5. bent was a good player when he was used. hes not lazy like berba he gets in the air an when given the chance he proves hes worth.

    get rid of berbs for 25 an keep bent he will develop

  8. Agree - a very stupid article.
    1 - Bent was hardly used.
    2- When he was he scored goals.
    3- Some people obviously have no footballing brain - a large part of Bent's game is running onto through balls either behind the defence or that split the defence.Our midfield wasn't really giving him much of this.You will also note that both Keano & Berbs were backtracking a lot last season & Defoe wasn't preferred partly because this aspect wasn't so much part of his game - like Bent he relies more on good service. In short the problem has been in midfield!!

    None of you have watched spurs week in and week out... its pretty obvious.

    No one here can see Bent in a top four team...

    I'm so angry with the comments here - you arent ambitious spurs fans, you have a small club mentality...

    Berbatov is class, if we can get him to stay, we should do everything to get him to. The mug that just said 'sell him for 25m, and let Bent develop' needs to be given the lethal injection.

    Bent's good enough to be a 4th choice striker, and thats the only terms i want to see him at the lane on.

  11. Bent is beyond awful - no touch no talent we have to take whatever we can get whether Berba goes or not. Bent is simply not good enough for Spurs.
  12. cant see what all the fuss is about, the priority is... keep berba, if he stays i wud b more than happy wiv bent as 3rd choice, let bent go... then wat happens if berba leaves... buy two strikers??? too risky 4 my liking, keep bent he wants to stay and work hard 4 us replace berba if need b but keep an established striker on the bench, he also needs a good run of games.... look at defoe.

Got to say I have seen some dissapointing comments on here by Spurs fans and you lot are starting to sound bigger than your boots...At the end of the day, we all need to put the Villa rumours to bed because there is no way hes gonna join Spurs now, He is probably THE hottest property in football and he will go to an elite club. And as for Darren Bent, he can be good, he can score over 20 goals, I have faith and ultimately have seen the boy do it before.. I see him getting back in the England team if he is used enough and as for him not having confidence- that is rubbish,give him a chance. We will sign another striker so I dont know why everyody is reling on a Keane-Bent partnership, it will be rotated as usual with whoever replaces Berb + Santos can play as a striker ..Keep Bent..

Might as well keep him or lose 6 million....Maybe not worth 16million yet but after scoring a few goals and making a few England appearences he'll be well worth 16 mill...he is still 24, not like he's an oldy, plenty of talent in him...bit like Andy Cole, if he gets goals, his confidence rises then he's a world beater...lets keep him as one of our strikers, he at least deserves the chance and I think his abilities merit that!!!

  17. No one's saying Bent is as good as Berbs so saying this or that Bent is not a Champions League Player just confuses the issue. I hope Berbatov stays but its not 100% so talking of getting rid of Bent is plain ridiculous.Just as you don't run before you can walk then don't get rid of players ( especially when they haven't had much of a chance to prove themselves ) until you are sure you've got someone better.
  18. Bent is lethal. He's no Berba or Villa or Torres but he can score plenty of goals. Whoever said it's the midfeld's fault is correct; why do you think Juande has bought 3 midfielders and no strikers thus far? - Because we cant create shit is why. A few cheeky through balls and accurate crosses and Bent will be banging in the goals, he's a poacher who can break through defences and can terrorise goalies one-on-one. He showed just how good he is when we played portsmouth and won 2-0. Look up that game on youtube and you can see Bent when he's playing irregularly - just imagine him with some momentum under his belt.

    The media was on his back all of last season because of his price tag but this season that should have died down and if we keep him he can be superb for us (still not £16.5m of superb mind you!).

    His 100th being the last goal he scored for Spurs. His appearances also include all them times he was sub.

    He's a goal scorer, and his whole career proves that!! stop looking for santiago Fernandez and support our striker, he's scored goals all his career and I can see him greatly improving his tally...Oh also 8 goals in 14 games for England under 21.

    Come on Darren, bang one in against the Gooners!!

  22. I believe if given the chance darren bent can be a top striker in the premier league. He has all the traits of a good goalscorer pace, strength, a good touch, a great header of the ball, and a great finisher. Look at players like Benjani or Anelka or even Carew who scored 15,11 and 13 respectively. Darren Bent is as good or better than all of these players he just needs the oppurtunity. Ramos had to keep Keane and Berba happy at the beginning of the year with Defoe being used as a sub. Towards the end of the season Bent took the Defoe role coming off the bench and he did well. This leads me to believe with the oppurtunity to start up front with Keane that Bent will be successful and could compete for a spot with England (seeing as they need a complete and consistent goalscorer).
    I'd be willing to bet that Bent will finish as a top 5 goal scorer if he becomes a regular first team starter.
