Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Article by Jesse Johnstone
I, like a lot of Spurs fans didn't expect us to get any kind of result from The Stadium of Light.
Spurs couldn't have been given a worse game to start off their Premier League campaign, against newly promoted Sunderland, a side rejuvenated by massive Spurs fan, Roy Keane.
Funnily enough, Mr. Keane never supported Nottingham Forest or Manchester United, but grew up watching the likes of Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa; his bedroom walls draped in Tottenham Hotspur colours.
Sunderland and Keane couldn't have asked for a better start. I don't think for a second that any Spurs fans, including the entire team at THBN expected Tottenham to go out with all guns blazing. In fact, I think we expected the opposite effect. I truly believed that Sunderland, completely revitalised by Keane since his insertion as manager in the early stages of last season, would hammer the Spurs make-shift defence, quick firing attack after attack.
That never happened. Instead, both sides shared the play equally throughout the game, neither deciding to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
To be fair, I would have expected Spurs to have made a better game of it if our main first team was out on the pitch instead of laying in the physio's room.
On another note, we can be extremely joyful at the signing of Younes Kaboul. What a star! He never stopped running, sometimes running the entire length of the pitch. He's a large defender too, not scared of putting his boot in.
It was hard to see us lose the game in the final attack of the match, but as I didn't expect much from the game, Michael Chopra's goal allowed me to move my thoughts to Tuesday, when we'll have our real season opener, at the Lane, against Everton.
What are your predictions for Tuesday's encounter with Everton at home?

2-0 Bent, Keane
COYS!!!
Doesnt he realize that Beba is the one player that gets the entire team playing?
Come on Jol!
We have to start off the game with a bang against Everton
3 nill
Where is Dawson, Bale and Lennon?
Kaboul turned out a good performance, but he did sometimes run so far forward that he couldnt get back.
Just hope he doesnt let us down with his titanic runs.
What's he been eating?
If by Christmas, Spurs are 10th, I can expect him to get the sack.
Games away to Sunderland are the types of games we have to be winning.
Is it too much to ask to play decently?
Me and my father were unhappy that the players didnt come over to us and at least clap for the hard work we put in in coming to sunderland to watch them play.
I will also be at white hart lane and hope we can do something better than we did at sunderland.
Why are all Spurs fans delusional??
Why do you think that you have the devine right of claiming the 4th spot in the Premiership?
If you're good enough (which you're not), then you'll make the Champions League.
Stop moaning!
Everton will win Tuesday. Spuds have a very dull mid-table midfield and a dodgy defence.
Enjoy your win, while you can. We'll talk again at the end of season.
What planet are you on? The season started against Sunderland and if we are true contenders for the top 4 we should have won. It was a sad, pitiful performance where Jol has to take the blame for poor team selection, no variety on the bench to change it (where were the wide men), and whose match tactics was to hang on in there and hope nick it.
A completely s*** article and Spurs performance.
Our midfield is useless. We need a left sided midfielder. I cannot understand why no one at the club can see this?
So an away game to Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool or the scum would have been easier?
You reall are a useless tw*t.
I also thought that we would lose this match
So in addition to poor tactics by Jol we can now claim lack of professionalism.
Time then for you to explain how after kaboul were werent going to sign anyone else until the last 2 weeks of august ,then we bought, bent ,boateng in the following weeks / days .
Oh and hows berbs new contract going that he was going to sign in 48 hours (some 1000 hours ago)
What a waste of space you lot are.
Hope you had fun building sandcastles tho!
SUNDERLAND outplayed you. Giving it all the biggun about Bent and Bale what a load of shite. Money well spent.
COME ON YOU GUNNERS
