Is Petrov Right For Spurs?


Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Athletico Madrid's Bulgarian left-winger, Martin Petrov, according to the Daily Mail.


The paper even went as far to add Berbatov's comments;


“I bought a newspaper and saw the rumours linking Martin Petrov with Tottenham. I am pleased to see this but these things will be decided on a much higher level than me and him (Petrov). It is always a good thing to have a compatriot with you but for the moment things remain as they were before. Is there a real chance of him joining us at Spurs? Nothing is impossible in football nowadays. We will see.”

Those are the apparent words of our top striker Berbatov. It’s obvious that he’s sending the right signals to the Spurs management and board. Adding another Bulgarian international to the Tottenham ranks wouldn’t be a bad move would it? After all, we have been crying out for a left winger since Ginola left the club. Comments made by Petrov himself signal a come and get me plea.

We have been informed that Petrov has the tendency of being injured. Would it be wise to spend in the region of £4 to 6 million on a player that spends a lot of the time on the sidelines? Would such an outlay be beneficial to the club? Have you seen Petrov play? Give us your description of the player Berbatov would like to play alongside at the Lane.

  2. I admit I have only seen him play once about 12 months ago in an international game. It might have been a one off, but I havent forgotten it and was delighted when we were first linked with him.

    The game I saw him in he was absolutely awesome. Full of pace and running, lots of trickery, a good crosser of the ball and always involved. He scored a cracking goal too.

    From other comments I have read, I may have got lucky, but on the only evidence I have seen, he is one hell of a player.

For the record, he's not injury prone, he's had an unfortunate year of picking up a couple of knee and ligament injuries but he's bounced back more than once and shown that he's an amazing player. I follow Athletico as my favourite Spanish team and love the football they play, its almost Spurs like in that its clean (no cheating), fast, attractive and skillful. I really think that Petrov is the one that we need, and should he get injured, then we have Taarabt in the wings to cover him so i personally think we'll be ok. He is lightning quick, skillful, scores goals out of nothing from anywhere in the oppponents half and can pass very well... what more do Spurs want...??

  8. It is the other Petrov at Aston Villa who is close to Berbatov. The Madrid's Petrov is a bit big headed and does'nt see 'eyes to eyes' with Berbatov
  9. Ideally We should sign Petrov and get Kewell (low fee) as his cover. Keep Steed as further cover plus he can play in cm or on the right.

    Get Kaboul and get rid of lee. Dump Stalteri (useless).

    Ditch Mido and get Bent (£10m no more) or Ashton (Spammers probably won't sell)

  11. yer he is good not to sure if he will be good in the prem and mgp is already proven in the prem but petrov is berbatov mate so buy him just to keep him happy.theres a rumor saying that figo is coming to us

  12. Actually I agree with the #1 comment here. Getting Petrov might be worth it, giving Berbatov one more reason to stay at Spurs long enough to settle in the Champions League.
