Why We Need To Move
By Damo
For THBN
Many Spurs fans are starting to believe that we are not that far behind our neighbors and deadly rivals Arsenal.
They may be right....for now.
We have never played in the Champions League and have not sampled any type of European competition since 1999, but our famous club is still in the top 20 World's Richest Football Club's List.
We have been adding players like Davids, Routledge, Mido, Defoe, Robinson, etc to our squad, while Arsenal have been fighting to keep some of their stars. Ashley Cole recently signed a new contract, but I wonder how long he'll remain at the club. Vieira, the torn that has dug into us for the past 8 years has also jumped ship. They also failed in attracting top players.
Some of you may be wondering why this article is called "Why We Need To Move"? It's obvious really. Here are some facts:
White Hart Lane Stadium Capacity: Just over 36,000.
Turnover from season tickets: £13.5 million per season (taken from 23,000 seats allocated to season tickets).
Arsenal's Emirates Stadium Capacity: 60,000
Expected turnover from season ticket sales: £30 million (taken from 45,000 seats allocated to season tickets).
While they may not have the funds to compete with us now, they will overhaul us in the next 3 - 5 years.
Now, imagine us having a ground that housed 60,000 seats. We could also have 45,000 seats allocated to season tickets. The turnover from those season tickets would generate approx £30 million. That is an increase of already £16.5 million. That alone could buy us a world class player.
We would then also have an allocation of approx 15,000 seats to fill, which, I am sure, wouldn't be a problem at all.
The stadium expansion needs to be addressed within the next 3 years or there could be a problem as other clubs will soon be out-bidding us.
I am all for us moving from the Lane. It hates me to say that. But most of us that post on THBN have been to the ground. Those who have been, know that it would be impossible to expand the stadium by more than 10,000 seats, and even that's pushing it.
We have been told that Levy is due to have a meeting with the council in December. Let's hope that something comes of it.
We cannot expand White Hart Lane at the moment due to the transport infrastructure not being in place.
Are you for us moving from the Lane? If so, where in London do you think we could build a new stadium?

Personally with the talk of Spurs moving the training ground to Whitewebbs in Enfield (hand for me as I back onto that) I guess the only option would be for the ground to go up at Picketts Lock as it's out of the way of towns etc and might make life easier for us fans travelling on match days.
WOOLWICH?
:-)
The cost is roughly £150 - £350 million depending on what the stadium requirements are.
Of course the club will need to take a loan against the stadium in order to build it.
THBN Team
It would look nice as a 3 tier stand.
THBN Team
Meanwhile an increase to 45K would, I agree probably be sufficient in the medium term.
Longer term the future of the game will be with TV with the Champions League becoming the PL of Europe and then in turn contributing to a World League all on TV for a hefty fee.
Hmm.. Moving Spurs to Tottenham Hale... there might be some legs in that idea, even tho' it pains me to say it. The transport links would be better, even tho' the one-way system is poo. It's not too far away... How big is this plot of land, Hare?
Regenerate Seven Sisters Rd.Build a tram line from S.S. station to White Hart Lane(HEAVEN),knock down the West stand(holds 7500) and build a simular stand that Leeds have(holds 22,500-biggest cantalever stand in Europe).
The ground then holds just over 50,000,the attn. we use to get in `87 evening games agaisnt Man Usa & Everton.
Cost of 1 new stand and help fund regen. will be cheaper and we will still be in Heaven.
I suppose it would do for the short term.
We definitely need to have a capacity of at least 48-52k.
We will keep the atmostphere.
I am all for the tram system. I believe it was mentioned a year back by the council or by someone on the Spurs board.

The area is already run down and the club offer revenue for the area on matchdays.
If the club were to move away, the area would crumble financially.
The transport will be upgraded if the government pushes the burocrats in making a decision.

Any chance of getting some spare shekles from the 2012 Olympics pot?

OK whats next....Wembley Hotspurs?
Picketts Lock Hotspurs?
Want to change the name next right?
Get real...stop thinking like Arse twats! We are not nomads!
WE ARE TOTTENHAM......AND WE HAVE TO STAY TOTTENHAM!
Wembley cannot be used as a home ground for any club side-part of lottery funding conditions.
Olympic stadium capacity is being reduced to 25,000 after the games.
Make the Lane bigger-as Belinda Carlise once said`Heaven is a place on earth`and she`s been a season ticket holder for 25 years
I would prefer to replace the West Stand and East Stand.
We also heard something about the Paxton end, but it was just a rumour.
THBN Team
If our figures are 1 or 2 million out then we are sorry for that.
As regards the East stand; THBN wasn't around at that time, but I personally remember Sugar wanting to close the road directly behind it. We own the small soccer fields behind also.
I know that the East stand is a listed building also, but to what degree I do not know.
My understanding was that if the East stand was going to be redeveloped, then we would expand it beyond the road behind the stand.
I am not sure why nothing happened.
We also saw the West Stand pictures. They did look impressive.
We do not have them either.
THBN Team
I haven't got the pictures either!!
You will be forever in the shadow of the mighty red and white army!!!
UP THE GUNNERS!!!
Cant we change the subject.
THBN what are your "sources" saying this morning ?
But please this is a dull subject I agree its important etc but its a bit like work, and I come on here to avoid work.
THBN - come on spill some Gossip.
Do you have any ?
You all amaze me, you are not a big club.
Davids will play less games than Anderton did.
We get this every year, optimistic sperz fans, by the time your tans gone you'll be in your usual fight for mid-table supremacy.
Useless. FDucking Useless.
Kaiserslautern's bid to sign Javad Nekounam could be set to collapse amid speculation Tottenham Hotspur and Galatasaray want to sign the Iran international.
New FCK coach Michael Henke has made the 24-year-old Pas Tehran star his number one transfer target.
The deal appeared as good as settled with Nekounam, who is tied to Pas until 2006, due to arrive in Kaiserslautern on Monday until his club insisted that the player remains at home.
“We would have been clear with the player but the club has so far not accepted our offer,” declared FCK president Rene C Jaggi, who fears being priced out of the deal.
Reports in Iran suggested that Turkish giants Galatasaray and ambitious Premiership outfit Tottenham are also interested in the midfielder and could be ready to launch a last-minute bid which could scupper the planned move to Kaiserslautern.
Spurs had been linked with Nekounam last month, with reports suggesting Martin Jol wanted to take the midfielder and his compatriot Hossein …
:-)
just an idea??
I was born and raised in the Shadow of the Lane, went to school behind it, I know the impact that club has on the local area's business. If WHL were demolished it would have a Devestating impact on the N17 area. not to mention local landmarks like the Corner Pin, Queens Arms etc would all probably close. N17 is in intregal part of THFC and always should be!
COYS
Keep it up. We'll be sure to give you a nice wave on our way past you bunch of past timers.
"Slip sliding away, slip sliding a-way"
Muppets.
I must say, that since Jol has joined you I even have started to follow some of your results, as you are showing some nice football. You have some decent players. Just build on this, and don't think about Arsenal.
A stadiumn needs to be built only if you see reason for that - and are you really so obsessed with arsenal that you need to build oine just because we are doing it? Do you think that we are having only good time with the stadiumn?
Now looking objectively - Arsenal is a club that is still a level above Spurs (c'mon, it is like that). However, I am sure Jol is a managare that can improve Tottenham dramatically. Wait for that and then think about the stadiumn. (To illustrate my point - if you had a 200K stadiumn, …
It hurts, but Arsenal are still so far ahead of us. They will fill their stadium twice over from the ticket waiting list. They will also make a fortune from property sales etc in the new developments.
We got Davids coz clubs bigger than us had no interest in him, he's 32 and on the slide and we have a long way to go before we can catch them.
Im also in Brisbane and life long spurs fan, Imagine having Spurs play at Suncorp Stadium. Makes me hard just thinking about it!!!
I been to the lane every time i get to UK but i agree its a bitch to get to and even more so to get out of but for petes sake there arent man big stadiums in major cities that arent hard to get in and out of. I say stick to the lane, build 3 tiers on west and concentrate on fixing the infrastructure into and out of. I believe cheaper less hassles and still in same place for historys sake. But if you want to move im more than willing to say move to Brisbane where you will have at least 2 lifelong dedicated supporters day and night!!
Take care all...
Go the SPURS 05/06!!!
Problem is, then the games start. You lose away against all the teams you always lose against (Blackburn, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Bolton, Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, anyone ooop North actually) and it is time for the bitching. The phone-ins. The message boards.
Arsenal, the team in decline whose four trophies in consecutive seasons you have chosen to ignore, keep ticking.
You are right in one aspect in that the new stadium is going to blow you out of the water, not least due to the NIKE and Emirates deals that have reduced the payments. My friends we will have a bigger matc…
Look at you lot go on. Once you can see that the new Arsenal Stadium will make your lives more of a misery than it already is and you start to look to the future that whine about staying at WHL the better the outlook would be.
Remeber with all the money you spent Bolton, boro and Man City all finished above you.
Small team, small ground and most aof all small minds.
By the way this post is keeping me and my mates laughing all day long.
You lot are sooooo SAD !!!!
Check the official website there are only 400 season tickets left.
The local transport system will not be able to cope with a increase capacity a WHL. Their is no real area around the statdium to develop and to rebuild a stand could take 2-3 years. Wont take much longer to build a stadium.
We have already looked at the area at Picketts Lock. I also think that is the right area for the stadium although the roads around there will have to be looked at as in rush hour it gets very congested, especially if M25 is blocked.
The club are developing for the future and if we started to build nowwe will still have a great squard of players (unlike the scum).
It can be finaced in a number of ways.
reports suggest that ENIC are creaming their pants at the way DL as moved Tottenham forward. A deal where ENIC buy our ground at WHL now will fund most of the deveopmentand we will give them the ground once the new one is built. As it has already been said, we are one of the 20 richest clubs.
Its the on…
Its gone Quiet on JJ Fig I agree.
Just wonder what THBN have to say about it - or are you still reading the papers to qoute your "sources"..
Maybe were after Jermaine Jackson
I'm sure if you go to the scum site you won't see any season tickets for sale (and there first few months of home games will no doubt be sold too). The have waiting lists going on years for their season tickets and will sell them as soon as they are available.
Why are you having a pop at me, just 'cos I have a 4 bedroom townhouse in Islington, been going all my life and eard 125k+ per year, does your post really make a difference
You stupid, poor peasant
Much as I, personally, would like to see Spurs with a stadium to match Ashburton Grove, there seems little chance of it happening in any sort of foreseeable future. Arsenal have been extremely fortunate on the property development front, which has made their new stadium possible. WHL sadly doesn’t have anywhere near the sort of redevelopment value to allow us to easily emulate them.
This description of the redevelopment of the East Stand was published in 2001, and is apparently still current.
“The proposed replacement will cantilever above Worcester Avenue with the road subsequently landscaped to a high quality and closed to vehicular traffic. However, the ceiling would b…
2 league titles doesn't give you that right.
Just to remind you all, we've won 2 titles at you're shit hole.
So please don't move, we feel quite lucky up your way.
And brain dead, thats not just because of Vieira. From memory we've always been the bigger club.
Its not just the last 9 years.
Anyone can walk through your midfield.
Cause you're shit.
ON THE ROAD TO WEMBKY AGAINN!!
125kpa - is that all.
How the fuck do you manage on that.
You get discounted tickets then ?
Remember the one we set aside for Steve Archibald - We'll take more care of you - it also fits Martin Jol. That song was a Spurs alone chorus, and had some respect. Time it came out again instead of the one we hear now.
Lets not to get carried away!! - Lets start winning things again, before we worry about buliding a brand new stadium.
I do agree with beefing up the capacity at the Lane.....but not going as far as a new stadium
Besides.....the lane is Holy Ground!!
Get real - you are not closing the gap on Arsenal. You have a bunch of kids not even half as talented as Arsenal's youth. You cannot compete with a team like Middlesbrough and your best hope is Uefa Cup football this season. And that is a sad thing to hope for.
Think your right.
Although the house he lives in is prob with his mummy and daddy.
And its more like 12.5k.
CAN WE CHANGE THE SUBJECT COS THIS FUCKING SUCKS.
THBN are you asleep after your morning milk or what ?
Yeh I know sounds naf....but they reckon that they can get the capacity up to about 15,000, & the way things are going that is thought to be enough in a couple of years time!
what do you think? Do you think spurs could fill a 15K capacity stadium?
Pip pip. And come on The Arsenal!
ps Do you actually cheer and shout and mouth profanities your games in distant god forsaken N17? How common.
Not just in the last 12 years.
In History.
Why do you think they named an Underground station after us?
Its because we're an important part of town.
The only club in North London worth talking about. Arsenal thats who.
So the choice is to build or rent.
We were £9m in debt at the end of December so we can either load ourseleves up with £300m debt (not impossible and depends what the property developers would pay for WHL, but the interest will sap our player buying considerably) or we can rent a pre-built venue.
I see 4 options for renting: New Wembley, Ashburton Grove groundshare (horrible thought as it will help Gooners pay for it and make them richer in the long run), The Olympic Stadium, or The Dome.
For me the Olympic Stadium is without a doubt the best long term option. The transport links will be excellent, it's easily reached from our NE London heartland and it can give us a huge modern stadium to play in. The problem is it won't be available until 2012! I'd g…
I thought wheels were still in motion regarding transport and infastructure development in the area surronding whl.
if we can resolve this issue the lane could be redeveloped. We own most of the properties behind the Paxton and apparently all of the shops along the high street infront of the west stand.
if we could put at least 10.000 seats on our existing capacity, with stands that can be developed further if needs be, then we'll certainly be heading in the right direction. 60.000 capacity now would mean empty seats i'm afraid.
I cant wait for you to be let down by Davids. You think you have really gone and done it. Finally a "big" name has come in. And you have arrived. Well, dont get your hopes up. As I said, if he was any good these days, he wouldnt have signed for you. You think that on a free, a team in europe wouldnt have taken him if he had been worth it? You cannot believe that! Oh well, another deluded season for you. Unlucky by the way in last seasons draw for the fair play place in the UEFA cup. YOu gave it a good go.
And if you think Vieira going brings you closer to us! HAHA! Write us off - thats when we are best! And write yourselves up - that is when you fail the most.
You boys get ready to change clubs again when you are paying of your debt ridden club.... even your own players are trying to jump ship!.....Pires, Campbell, Cole all want out!...Henry lookings like a frightened rat!...he wont stay around long!....at least you glory chasers wont have to go far to chase the next glory team....just down the road to the lane........but we will smell you out....shit for brains always stinks!
Arsenal 115M to our 66M
Arsenal's turnover will increase by another 60M with their new stadium
projected for 2006-2007
175M
We need to move.
Just think what it must be like on the Arse blog.....
" How's Viera going?"
"hes gone mate"
"Oh ...well how's Cole going"
"he want's to go mate"
"Oh....well hows Pires doing""
he would like to go but nobody wants him mate"
"Oh...is sol coming back?"
"dont think he wants to mate"
FUCKING DEPRESSING!!!!
No wonder they need tocome over here for some fucking action!!!

As it's the most interesting thing on the Arsenal NN Section, they felt the need to read it and make their comments, which they are completely entitled to.
They do seem a bit desperate though.

Finished your milk and cookies then!
Buy a new stadium, who cares? It won't make any difference.
THBN Team
Seems he choose own that cant catch a ball and now one thats to fucking sick to catch one!!!
hA hahahaahaha
You fucking losers!!!

While they may not have the funds to compete with us now, they will overhaul us in the next 3 - 5 years.
Rich List
6 (7) Arsenal £115m
14 (16) Tottenham £66.3m
If they are making almost twice as much - who exactly is trying to play catch up?
Souness is on his own trip at the moment. He thinks he's clever in asking for £15 million for a player worth £7 million.
We have a feeling that Shepherd will accept Spurs next bid (to be made on Friday) of £8.5 million.
Papers are also stating that Kanoute may be sold as part of a swap, but we think that is just paper talk as no sources have told us or other unofficial sites such news.
THBN Team
As regards profit, we make more than them and have done now for the past 2 seasons.
It is easier to build a stadium from new than to redevelop 2 stands.
We are talking about near a billion being spent by the government and transport authorities in order for us to upgrade to even 48,000 seats.
