The 'Pitbull' Signs!

It's official! Edgar The 'Pitbull' Davids has signed for Spurs on a free transfer from Italian giants Internazionale.

The club kept all of you, including us, hanging on to the edge of our seats for an entire week. But wasn't it worth the wait? Of course it was.

Some other footballing fans have mocked us in our pursuit for Davids. I put that down to jealousy. In Davids, we have a worldclass superstar midfielder. Our rivals have just lost theirs. Is the balance starting to shift? We will have to wait and see.

For those of you who haven't read all the info on the player, we can tell you that Davids is the type of player, that when up for it, which he is, can single handily take a team to the very top. He gets the players around him going.

We can't wait for the time when he'll pick up the ball from a Carrick pass just inside the centre circle and run at the opposition with that ferocious tenacity that has made him one of the best there is.

Of course, we will have to do our part when watching from the stands. Let's not just cheer magnificently when Davids name is called out, but let's cheer loudly for every player on the teamsheet.

We have a good feeling that not many of the White Hart Lane faithful will be sitting on their blue seats this season. Daniel Levy may as well take the seats out!

Lets cheer this young team on. Our support will spur them on to bigger and better things. Davids will inspire them by adding his ‘winning mentality’. This squad will make our hearts sing out loud and proud.

If reports are anything to go by, we have the most Spurs supporters playing in the squad ever. Reto, Edman, King, Davids, Marney, Mido and of course Jol make it 7 Spurs fans. This can only be good for the team.

We do not expect any other transfers to be completed before the transfer deadline of August 31st 2005.

  4. Don't think the club was premature - he signed, didn't he? Would have been awful if it had fallen through after announcing it on the site, but Levy et al must have been certain about it.

  5. Carrick is a lump of turd compared to Tainio (yes, indeed also a childhood Spurs-fan) so yes, a lot of people expect to see Tainio in the middle alongside Davids.
  6. to my mind, LM seems the position which is trickiest to fill. Jol has headaches in the other areas, but in a good way - too much quality! still think LM needs strengethening
  7. agree with DAnnyT.. and would add that with Davids, Paul Stalteri and Teemu Tainio joining Naybet Spurs have definitely added experience to compliment the good young talent at the Lane. Good times!

    3 things wrong with this mugs statement.
    Carrick is one of the best midfielders in the leauge. Ask any football pundit or listen to any, they all say the same thing, this guy is the missing link between Gerrard and Lampard for the England team. By the end of the season we will see how many times Carrick gets dropped for anyone else in the team, if you were a spurs supporter you would know what Jol thinks of Carrick.

  11. Carrick has always started since Jol took charge, so I can't see that changing. Jol also said he was our best palyer in Korea.

    Tainio is obviously going to feature, but I would imagine he'll start on the bench and be rotated in at various positions across the midfield.

    I hope Mendes doesn't get completely sidelined. He's a class act.

    Sneijder would add quality now to the left mid position whilst not putting too much pressure on young Reto and Kuyt could gurantee us over 20 goals a season - unfortunately unlike Kanoute.

  27. I suspect the Canadian will back Kelly at RB and Edman at LB. He can also play in midfield, although that seems highly unlikely given the stockpile of MF's we have! By the way, he's been injured (last game of the Bundesliga season).

    Carrick is good, I never said he wasn't. But Tainio is better, therefore the "rude" turd comment on MC. I don't need to ask pundits for anything, I have eyes of my own. There are several missing links in the England team, but none of those are Carrick.

    Also, he just misses too many sitters for my liking. That said, he's looked inspired this pre-season. The competition for spots may have something to do with it. Or he's trying to play for an improved offer.

  32. davids signing truly is fantasic news. if he stays fit and doesnt pick up too many suspensions (fingers crossed) i'm sure he will be the catalyst to a better season than we've had in about twenty years. however lets not forget he is just one man on a pitch of 22 so we shouldnt be expecting miracles like as spurs fans we usually do!

    i'm surprised that there will be no more signings. does this mean we are left with goran bunjevcevic as back-up should edman pick up an injuries? bit short on the left side i think. zeigler / reid / edman / bunjy. is that all? hope we don't end up playing davids left midfield when the squad picks up the odd injury.

  91. I think you will find that, contrary to the opinion held by THBN, Spurs WILL be signing at least two more players before the deadline. I know for a fact that Spurs are considering making a bid for Ashton, but this may happen in the January window with Marney being used as makeweight, should the loan prove sucessful. My sources told me that the Marney loan deal only actually came about AFTER Spurs made an enquiry regards Ashton.

    The D'Alessandro enquiry has also been revived only last week. There were reports that Inter were about to make a bid but pulled out for an unexplained reason. And my sources tell me that Spurs may, and its a big MAY have got to D'Alessandro before Inter. Those in the know are aware that we made a £5.5m cash bid in March, which was rejected. I think a renewed bid of £7m would secure his services.

  95. you could sit here all day discussing how well spurs are going to do but lets be honest, they are going to at most be competing for sixth place as the team s still young maybe thats a big maybe n a couple of seasons time we could aim higher but at the moment 6th is as high as they could get. that is only if we have a VERY good season. you have to remember we are not the only team to have brought players alot of the other teams have improved considerabaly from last season so dont expect too much from such a young squad.

  98. Securing someone of Eds stature at the beloved Lillywhites is fantastic on many fronts -
    1) WHAT A TOP NAME - how long has it been....
    2) We have a squad that consists of some of the best prospects and players available. This has been acknowledged by many top names in our sport eg Ars*h*ole Whinger, Alex Ferguson etc.. who a very impressed by what is going on at WHL. What better education to provide than from a pure winner, someone who has done it all, and to be fair at 32years young has loads left to offer.
    3) With all the youngsters around him, how much exertion is required from the new boy??? If a little jaded in the odd game, he will still be able to impose his undeniable quality in a game.
    4)Will it help to attract other proven players - i think so, but equally or more important, what about other top prospects to continue building these solid foundations?

    BTW, really pleased to here Keano commiting to us, but what news of his contract????????????

  100. IMHO, 6th would be a decent result from the season. Any better would be magnificent. We're still a very young team and have excellent prospects and management. A few key signings/steals in Jan' and beyond will help us towards this goal but at the moment, the start of the season can't come quickly enough.

    I'm going to cheer the lads on, whatever happens. I'm looking forward to downloading clips of Spurs goals from 3. :)

    BTW - Anyone got any good Spurs wallpapers that work on a LG 3 phone? Cheers!

    A bit worrying and,unlike most journo rubbish, seems pretty credible. I think Mendes is class, but he chances at spurs look limited. We're overstocked in central midfield - they'll even be competition just to be on the bench - and I never thought he was effective when pushed wide right.   111. I can confirm that those are the clubs interested in Owen. My source is a journalist in Spain who works for Marca. I did ask if Spurs were in for him, and was told that there has never been any interest expressed by Spurs regarding Owen. Any stories to the contrary are false. The only contact Spurs have made to Real within the last six months has been regarding taking Salgado or Guti - both approaches were rejected.

    Robbie's contract doesn't end until 2008. He signed a 4 year deal in 2002 with a further option of another 2 years.

    He took that option last year.
