Spurs Do Us Proud

Oh that badge is looking mighty big right now....Against players supposedly on the way to the armpits of this world, I thought we were outstanding.

All we have to do is get behind the boys now. That's all we have to do. We slagged Gardner off all last season and now he's fitter he's looking like the player who made the England squad season before last.

If we can think about that for a minute and realise just how important our support really is to this young team, we will truly be going places.

Martin Jol is simply the dogs nuts! Is it me or does he seem even more composed and relaxed since "Stank Frank" has gone. He's the man in control and he knows it and it shows up big time!

Wingers, one touch, one of the best striker combinations in Prem League, cover in almost all positions and just handed to me, custard with me apple crumble.......Now all I need is Sol Campbell transfered to West Ham and my year would be complete.

  3. Sorry, absolutely no idea at all. Do we really need one this season? Tainio did really well in the tournament. We probably need someone who can play like him as back up. One who can quickly pick through balls.

After today's performance I'm beginning to wonder if we actually eed a big signing and I'm also thinking Mido and Keane should start the season as the first choice strike partnership, maybe I'm overreacting but Lyon are a very good side and we outplayed them in the first half and held them in the second (in the heat)when they are further into their pre-season training (French league starts sooner than prem)

    We looked very good and a lot more skillfull, i liked routledge on the right a lot and mido was top class, all we need now is a top class midfielder like GUTI , D'ELLASNDRO OR JOE COLE... a bit of flair...
  7. I think you hit the nail firmly on the head. So many of the signs are so good but, given the young age of the squad, the support of the fans will be more important than ever. With the exception of the moany old geezers in the West Stand I fully expect the faithful to get fully behind the boys.

    And then on to Europe!!!
  8. We have a fine crop of very young talent who, alongsid our existing experienced pro's, will do us proud in the forthcomoing campaign. All power to them!

    Realistically Baptista won't come but D'Allesandro or Rosicky for £6-7mil would be gr8 for the team and bring 4th place that much closer. what do u guys think

  16. Rosicky is great at going forward but he is slight so I dont know if he is going to adapt to the premiership as quickly as we would like. Havent seen D'Allessandro play so I cant comment on that.

    6m is worth a gamble but 7/8 is probably too much?
  17. D'allesandro has bags of tricks and goes on gr8 weaving runs. more flare than Routledge.
    Rosicky would bring goals and carrick could sit back and cover for him.
    also tainio looks gr8. hope his injury isnt too bad.

  19. Tainio's just a perfect fit, gives attacking edge to the midfield while not compromising on the team's overall defensive balance.

    A flair player sometimes needs to have other players do the defensive work. Unless he's willing to track back and keep the shape of the team. Anyway, I guess I'd be happy to have either Rosicky or D'allessandro in the team.

  22. we should have bought Israel's Yossi Benayoun - a midfielder who can score goals. True, he is on the slight side, but it'll be interesting to see how he does at West Ham. Big Sam Allerdyce is upset he didn't get his man. Look what a great signing Tal Ben Haim has been for him. If Benayoun turns us over when we play the Hammers, there'll be a quite a few Yiddos saying 'I told you so' - including me.

  24. Talking about injuries, I think Chelsea were also fortunate to have Lampard playing in ALL of their matches last season. No injuries, no fatigue problems..
    Just imagine what they'd be like without him?

    I think the way Carrick plays, there is less chance of him picking up an injury, he doesnt get tackled too often.
  25. not to sure about edman. still gets caught the wrong side of attackers and has to make last chance blocks or fouls (man u at the lane? penalty) i reckon wayne bridge would fit the bill 5 - 7 million. we have ziegler but he's still so young.

    tainio is class the perfect player to play alongside carrick he can create and also defend very well. box to box just what we needed

    maybe a goalscorin AM and left winger 2 chaleng Reid 4 a place or extra cover at the back but that wudnt have to be big name.

  35. We dont have to spend all that money this season. Rosicky and a left back will do. We only have 3 players on the left Edman (D), Ziegler (D & M) and Reid (M). Need one more for cover.

    Whatever is left from this year can be added to next year's budget.

    But it's in our nature as we view our great club in such high esteem but have had too many years of dross, so we take it out on the manager and the players and the chairman and sometimes the tea-lady.

    Our mentality has to change, and it will when we start reaching new boundaries.

    With each season that passes, we will get better and better.

    Players will want to play for us once more as the club will join the greats again and the crowds at the Lane will make the players feel like gods.

    We have been known to have the best atmostphere in London when things are going for us, and we only have a 36,000 capacity. Imagine what it would be like if we ever had 50+,000 down at the Lane and things were going great!
  54. 12.15 good point. Marney can shoot and I heard his dead ball skill is not bad either. If he is the box to box type then I am all for him at AM. Sometimes players like him needs to be shown some faith. Even Jol said last year that he has a big Spurs future ahead of him .

  58. Mendes will be Carrick's replacement. I want to see more of Marney. I would like him to be Tainio's replacement player.

    I have said it since I watched him play in the reserves 2 seasons ago....Marney will become to us what Gerrard is to Liverpool.

    Many of you will think I have completely lost the plot, but mark my words. If he can continue to progress, then he will become a true Spurs legend.

But as you run into the pitch the supporters are completely behind you, motivating you to give 200% in all your tackles, telling you that its ok to make the odd mistakes....even Traore can be a CL winner.

    I remember blowing my top off when Edman gave away that pen against Man U at WHL. I think I should suppress that kind of feelings a bit more in the future.

  63. Cerny is a great keeper. Which is good because we need not rush Robbo in his recovery. I dont think he will lose his England no. 1 place if he doesnt play in the next 2 months.

  80. Our buy british policy has paid off handsomely.I don't think it is for altrustic reasons that Levy decided on such a policy.Few foreigners have dollar for dollar paid succeeded in the EPL.
    However when we do bid for some more "exotic" players such as Baptista, it seems strength and pace are requirements we look for. I think thats sensible.
    Therefore the options discuss in this blog, D' alessandro, rosicky....I have my opinions... their undoubted talents would not contribute consistently to spurs cause.

    He is quality and is exactly what we need... at least 8 goals in a season from midfield and would cost us max 7mil...and I think thats a price we should pay.Rather than the more exotic unproven option like Rosicky, which will costs at least 6mil.

  93. I think we can have punt-deal with Rosicky, buy him for 8m with an option to return after one season for 6.5m , just in case he doesnt cut it in the premiership.

    Not unlike Postiga's situation. 1.5m is a good bet, definitely better than writing off 11m.

  96. I like the look of our team for next season, one thing we dont want to do is spend a load of money on a player just for the sake of it, the team are obviously building up a great spirit. So lets only buy someone who's right for the team, wether he costs 1m or 15m.

    Honestly, Marney, El Hamdoui and Mark Yeates are probably the best set of midfield options with brown davis mendes carrick and tainio all fighting for the same 2 slots.

    and if the signing comes it does, otherwise, molly's call to back the team when mido keano reid tainio and routledge all seem to be playing great football seems to be the wiser option as compared to moaning and pining for a "Big Name" signing.

    Can't see him going to Arsenal, they really don't need him. Hleb played so well for them. Davids would be a great addition to Spurs, we only need him for two seasons to lead the midfield, until our young midfield are capable of doing it themselves, he'll do the same job that Naybet did in the defence!

    He would massively raise the profile of the team and be a rock for the midfield to rely on, and an obviousley talented player.

  110. According to ITV text Arsenal have agreed 13.7 million pound fee with seville for baptista. This tells me that we never bid for him in the first place, they were just using our name to get more money for him. Very pleased with performance against Lyon however our mentality seems to change when its for real. Squad looks good but we are still crying out for that leader in the middle of the park. MJ said himself he wants one more "experienced" signing. So whos it gonna be? I see we are linked to yet another striker from Auxerre, this must be bullshit. So whos it to be? Im out of ideas. Ledley should stay as a rock, the amount of times he has put in a last min tackle that WOULD have been a goal otherwise could have earned us points last season, he reads the game so well from the back and leads the others.

  198. I'd like to think so, he's not a skinny bloke, he seems well built, looks like he likes to take charge when he's playing as well, think he's a bit like Jenas, just not as skillful, but slightly more agressive, and as we know (Everton) he's got a good shot on him!
