Spurs tall defender Anthony Gardner may sign for Charlton Athletic within the next 48 hours according to reports.

Gardner, 23, has become surplus to requirements at Tottenham. The London club already have the likes of King, Dawson, Naybet, Davenport and Huddlestone vying for the two centre-back spots available.

It has been said that Charlton offered £1 million, which, was firmly turned down by Spurs coach Jol. Tottenham have asked Charlton to raise the bid to around the £2 million mark if they are to land their man.

Charlton will come in with a bid in the region of £1.6 million, with a further £300,000 based upon appearances.

If Gardner does sign, Charlton will have a back four comprised of former Spurs players.

Chris Perry and Luke Young both played for Tottenham, and Paul Konchesky played on loan for Spurs.
