Our Shrewd Chairman

"I think Levy has proved to us all about how smart, knowledgable and shrewd he is. I have to say he is THE premier chairman in our league, I for one, am exceedingly pleased at the progress he has made and feel happy to support him fully in his decisions as I know they are in the best interests of Tottenham Hotspur"
We all wish Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur Board and all the coaching and playing staff at Tottenham the best of luck as we continue to grow.
For THBN
After the story on THBN of Frank Arnesen continuing his work at Tottenham until the termination of his contract, THBN received many comments from its users stating how much they admired our chairman Daniel Levy.
I have to agree with them completely. From his takeover in 2001, Levy has not stopped trying to deliver glory to his beloved Spurs.
Signing Glenn Hoddle as our manager and then having to terminate his contract truly showed that nothing was out to stop Levy’s quest in making Tottenham great again.
During the interim period of finding a manager for the club, Levy toured Europe, meeting with top club owners in the chance that they would assist him by handing out knowledge in the form of advice for creating a new system, the continental system.
After landing the now departing Frank Arnesen as Sporting Director, Levy showed the Premiership that his shrewd cunning continental approach was in full force.
We all know the events that happened therein with the Santini scandal, Martin Jol’s promotion to head coach and all the stories of what happened with Frank Arnesen. But have we really considered how hard and smartly Daniel Levy worked on getting a massive compensation package for the club?
One THBN user commented:
“Arnesen is a traitor, but he is no way near worth 8 million. I heard the other day that Dortmund rate Rosicky at 8 million so who would you rather have. And before you guys all jump on me for suggesting that we are going to buy Rosicky I was only using him as a bench mark. The fact is the money we get for that turncoat will be put to better use no matter who it is we sign”
How true. The reported figure of £8 million was a massive boost to our transfer budget. These are true signs of a quality businessman.
The chairman of the previous regime possibly would have publically slated Arnesen and Chelsea, maybe making matters worse. I very much doubt our former chairman or most other chairman for that matter would have done what Levy did. By keeping his cool and proceeding accordingly, Levy got the club what it deserved.

I think Levy is doing an outstanding job but he needs to fill Arnesen's role quickly (by Christmas) and with someone near his calibre. When the post is filled, the first thing they need to do is fill the role of MJ's assistant that has been vacant for 9 months.
This is so true. The entire country new about Huddlestone, Davenport, Reid, Dawson, etc. So Spurs have gained massively from his departure.
Some reiterate what you have said: "The value amounted to that because of the potential selling-on fees of the players signed".
Well in that case, Spurs should have got in the region of £50 million.
I put it all down to Daniel Levy. He sold the pitch to Chelsea and they fell at the last hurdle.
Well Done Daniel!
When the new version of THBN (www.THBN.co.uk) is created, users will be allowed to post their own stories.
Can't wait!
We have the coaching staff covered.
Commoli (spelling) is the Sporting Director I would like to see at the Lane.
He's young, clever, astute and has built up a large database of contacts in Africa (no Atouba's please).
The only problem is that he is very close to Arsene Wenger. I believe that when Wenger moves onto the Arsenal board, Commoli could be there next manager or DoF
I think his history at spurs is following this trend. He has found some good players, Zeigler is fantastic, but there have been a lot of his players, largely quietly, offloaded.
My main worry is if Spurs have a good season then Jol is going to be a wanted man. I'd hate to lose him as personally I feel he's the best Manager we've had in recent years.
He did what any good businessman would do with the arnesen affair, reporting chelsea would have resulted in chelsea being slapped on the wrist with a fine, which they can afford, and possibly a 3 point deduction, which would only benefit the gooner scum and Man U.
The best thing was take the money and fortunatley for us he had the photos of arnie on the boat, to use as leverage.
But his record has been poor, as soon he took over he got rid of graham, in possibly the worst PR execercise I have ever seen, then appointed HOD The GOD, which seemed great at the time, but then we lost Campbell for nothing to the gooner scumbags, something I will never forget!
Then when Hod had an awful season instead of getting rid of him in the summer he stayed with him and let him spend big money on buying some no hopers in the summer, only to fire him a few games into the season.
Then he had f***in ages to find a manager, he almost got t…
Even if we made a loss on his sale, it would be a great profit to the club.
We lose a Sporting director, not even 1 year into his contract and we reap the Dean Richards fee back.
Great business!
I agree with what 5.12 pm said. I f you think its great business to lose a sporting director who was meant to be restructuring us for the next years then youre mistaken.
And who knows we have 8 million? The figure remains undisclosed, it could be lower or higher we dont know and therefore cant say if it was great business or not.
Levy does have a lot to prove
Handing the Hoddle cash may have been a mistake, but don't we all make mistakes?
Taking a year to appoint a manager was that he was implementing the continental approach. That doesn't happen on a whim.
The Santini scandal was out of his hands. He was the world champions manager. How could we have known the guy had personal problems?
Levy doesn't need to prove himself this season. All chairman need to prove themselves on a daily basis.
The point of this article was that I (and a lot of you judging from the comments) was very happy with his contribution recently.
Would I rather the entire thing never happened? Of course.
Abram prefers blowjobs to anal, arneson will be sucking for denmark
a) He would never come to us
b) Because he plays for the scum we dont want him here and
c) We couldnt afford him
What planet are some of you on???
You'd be welcome here dickface.
1) Arnesen is recognised in the sport at being the best at what he does by the people who understand his worth.
2) Chris Houghton maybe supporting MJ currently but a) I swear there is a page on the Spurs site that does not have a name next to Assistant Head Coach (but I can't find it at the mo') b) Would you be happy with Chris Houghton taking over as Head Coach full-time if Jol went elsewhere? That is the aim of the continuity with the head coach and assistant head coach.
If they are, I can now c y shamble signed 4 em.
...I am pretty sure Hughton is the Assistant Head Coach. If not, then what other role does he do?
As regards Hughton taking over from Jol......
...I am not sure Chris could do the job. Maybe it would be too much for him. Don't get me wrong, he's a great assistant, but when all that responsibility falls on you, some crumble under the pressure.
So my answer is no, I don't think he would make a good head coach. But that is my opinion and as you know, opinion's are like assholes...everybody has one.
Yer Gon/na Love it (say it quickly)
Ignore for now - come back next year.
Promise!
Arnesen would have left whatever once the Chelscum approach was made, the FA are weak and would have done nothing, he didn't cry to them like Arsenal did and he got significant compensation.
Arnesen may be well respected, but how respected will he be after this (moving for the money and behind Spurs back, then lying) and with Chelscums reputation within the world of football, who's going to trust him now?
I think he worked in Holland before Spurs right? If so, he may have found Ronaldo, the others like Robben and Van Nistelroy can hardly have been hard to spot. Holland has a population of 16m people, and apart from three clubs from the Dutch league could most people name? It's hardly like identifying these players in lets say the Italian or Spanish leagues.
For the upcoming season, don't worry folks, we'll pick up a couple of experienced quality players this summer which will help our fantastic base of youngsters develop into winners in the next couple of seasons, just like Cantona, Irvin and the Great Dane did for Ferguson's babes nearly 10 years ago.
The future is bright, the future is Lillywhites!!!
His 'discovery' of Ronaldo - who cost him £11 million? (I think the sellers may have discovered him first). People also tend to remember the successes, we have 'allowed' several of his discoveries to leave already!
There is a general feeling in Europe that Arnesen is a spent force, search and read, why do you think he was going to retire?
I think Levy is laughing his head off right now.

You are right. The Assistant Head Coach's Job is vacant on the official Spurs site. Hughton is a Coach not the Assistant Head Coach. I do not think CH is up to the top job at the moment.
