and most headers are scored from corners and free kicks usually by centre backs.
having pacey wingers/good crossers does not mean we need a huge man up front although of course it is sometimes a advantage, it means we need sharp finishers.

Don't remember Reid as being particularly effective, saw him in the away game against liverpool and was left rather frustrated, quite often looking off the pace, mentally rather than physically, in trying to play the left wing position. Very ineffective, hardly penetrated at all and didn't seem to be able to make his decisions quick enough making the matter of whether he was actually fast or slow, fit or fat quite irrelevant!

I'm not writing the kid off though, it might have just been an off game plus it is a big step up from the championship. I'll give him, and all the other spurs recruits made since summer 2004, a fair crack of the whip, I have my favourite players but I'm not going to abuse those that aren't.

hey i agree with above team. however, i'm a big fan of mendes, who has really looked like a very good midfielder to me - liking to put in the tackle, and at one point had the highest percentage of successful passes of any player in any team in the prem (around december time). perhaps not the best foil for carrick, or at least not as good as davis at protecting carrick. though, for all his promise, davis has not really got on top of his injuries and hence his form. also, davis so far has shown no forward impetous, whereas mendes was great going forward.

also, i very much liked the look of dawson in defence. I think he'll be 1st choice, at least going into second half of season.

Much as I think Carrick is a great player, the way the team plays we can't afford his weaknesses. When Hoddle played, Burkinshaw built the team around him protecting his weaknesses. I don't see in the current squad how we can achieve this.

simply a example of what we can field but the dynamism and tackling of the above midfield knocks spots off the old one .

I'm a United fan, and from an OT point of view, we'd be quite happy for Richardson to leave for £3m. He's got a good left foot and good eye for goal, but has flattered to deceive at United.

He's looked like a worldbeater in the reserves, dribbling past everyone and scoring some stunning goals, but he's always disappointed for the first team.

He's lightweight and often loses the ball trying to go on a mazy dribble. The problem with Richardson has always been that he's a head-down dribbler - he doesn't have good awareness when he's running at players, and often runs into deadends.

Even his matches in the US, okay, he scored the two goals on his debut, but what about his all-round play? He's a winger, but did he beat a man in that match? He took the goals well, but didn't do anything productive apart from that.

In fact, United fans are hoping the two goals on his England debut and all the hype that it created will bump up his tranfer fee!
