Heart rendering defender Thimothee Atouba, will (as predicted by THBN well over a month ago) sign for German team Hamburg, subject to the player finalising personal terms.

Good riddance!

And some of you said that we should play him up-front! I hope you were joking.

With Atouba's leaving, we have Erik Edman and Reto Ziegler that can cover at left-back. Is there any need for us to sign another left-back?

I still think that Jol will shelve out a few more players. Who would you like to see go?

I personally feel Brown will be sold, as well as Pamarot. Brown is a very hard working player, but I feel that with Mendes, Tainio, Davis, Carrick and possibly Huddlestone in midfield, Brown's place in the team has come under threat.

Pamarot was a Santini signing and seems to play better at centre-half rather than his more traditional role of right-back. The guy is recovering from a serious injury at the moment, so I am not too sure how the club would get rid of him (if they are planning to that is).

He signed from Nice for £1.7 million last season. That figure is too large of an amount to write-off just after 12 months, so it waits to be seen what will happen.

With everyone in the world of Tottenham realising that an attacking midfielder is needed, who would you buy? And if we bought another central midfielder, who do you think would be sold?

From day one, I have said that we should have gone in for the mighty Figo, and I'm sticking to it!

Any thoughts on new players, or players which you would like to see gone?

Please be realistic.

    If all else fails I propose we bring the Infamous and illustrious Darren Anderton back into the fore, now pying his trade somewhere in the midlands, I forget.
  4. I would really like to see a Cahill type player. Perhaps steed malbranque although he lacks consistency... figo would be ideal!
  5. Under Santini Atouba was used as a sort of centre-forward as any long balls were hit in his direction as he drifted in from the left wing for the flick-on. He did get the ball quite a lot but for me he just isn't a natural footballer - those spaghetti legs look a bit nutmeg friendly for a left back and although I like flair players I don't want one at left-back. His goal at Toon will be remembered but thats about it. Another Milenko Acimovic I'm afraid.

    I couldn't beleive that the Beckenbauer of the Balkans (Bunje)is still with us - how many years did Hoddle give him on his contract? Don't get me wrong - it's good to have squad members like that (he is our second oldest player I think) but he won't get many starts with the talent thats ahead of him.

  8. i honestly dont think we should sign anyone unless someone top class should come available.without seeing the new guys, i would think that lennon and routledge flying down the wings and a solid midfield with the choice between carrick, davis, tainio, mendes, brown, and the versatile huddlestone. we have choices in all positions, our defence looks strong and i was very impressed with Dawson towards the end of last season. there are going to be some unhappy players because i think it will be tough keeping all these players happy, i dont see that bringing in anyone else would add anything to the team unless they are something special.

His wages are huge, Jol repeatedly talks about neading pace, Real want a fee for him, and after all that money he'll retire, not a good investment. I wouldn't be suprised to see Saliteri at left back, Jol doesn't seem overly keen on Edman often prefering Atouba last season. Reto will also play at the back more with the many wingers signed and perhaps more on the way if you believe rumours. I don't feel there are any huge signings on the way, at least not before someone leaves. Robbie has to sign a new contract or will be sold b4 he does a bosman, so maybe a striker will come in, other than that any signings will be unpredictable and I bet a complete surprise if they do happen - it seems to be the spurs way now - if the press link us with someone, they probably aren't coming.   10. Van Der Vaart has signed is Atouba's new team mate. He signed for Hamburg ages ago. Van Der Meyde is off to Milan or Inter.

    After watching Tainio's goals, I must admit that he looked like a link player.

  16. Be realistic & then I think we should get Figo! you been smokin too much crack! We need to get rid of a couple more just to trim the squad. I agree that Figo / Aimar etc would be ideal but forget it until we're in Europe. We need to unearth a gem (easier said than done!) so I've no idea - we should have gone for Van der vart but he's gone to Hamburg. I also think we should get a target man & get rid of Kanoute as half the time he can't be arsed & he scores as often as Eugene on big brother!

  18. Van Der Vaart had a bad season last year, but he is quality. Jol mentioned a few months back that he wouldn't have minded signing him and his mate Westley Sneijder, who is also top draw.

    Maybe we'll sign him as we haven't been strongly linked with him yet.

  21. I think sneijder is the way to go, he's attack minded, can tackle, and has bags of pace. As Jol's recognized no defender likes someone coming at them with pace. Just ask the gooner scum Lauren after the cup final.

  27. Look all of you, you must realise that Atouba was not all that good.

    I noticed that as a left back Atouba had a tendency to not look round at the winger on the other side, and was always too far away from him - bread and butter stuff!!

    As a winger, he was just a stopper. He had some fancy flicks to confuse his opposite number, but that just not enough!! He was also not some one who could burst up the wing and either cross it in or score goals - (like Ginola could with ease). Atouba only did it once against Newcastle, which is unacceptable in my view.

    I conclude that the club tried to educate him about these problems, but he just seemed not to take the advice in. Therefore, not top six material, and its good business to sell him to Hamburg (an average club in Germany - Says it all don’t you think?)

    Any Ideas how much money were selling him for?
  28. I would HATE to see Andy Johnson or Crouch at the lane, both highly overrtated. ON his day Kanoute is a top draw player, we need to motivate him somehow,. I would like to see Joe Cole(bot gonna happen) , steed malbranque(quality player who might want away from fulham after the piss poor season they had) and Snjeider (sp.) is pure quality. I know we are investing in youth talent and building a squad for the future but I think if we brough in a couple of quality attacking midfileds or creative midfielders then we would be able to challenge this season. Young guns are all well and good but they need experience. King and Dawson should be superb in the centre, we all know robbo and Defoe's class, would like to see Keane perform better and be less selfish.   31. Would like to see Sneijder and Richardson come as sneijder adds the attacking option we've been lacking in the middle and experience in europe and as a winner. Richardson is a great prospect and a future regular for England, he would also push Reid to lose the weight he needs to. Offload Davis (only cos i'm scared if we don't we'll end up with another Anderton on our hands) and Davenport cos if he can't make the first team in a side that was shipping goal after goal in a relagation battle i'm afraid he's not gonna make the grade for our backline.

As far as Davenport goes I think we should loan him out to a decent prem club, I think he looked crap at southampton and his confidence musta gone down hill so lets see him do well for a change and then assess him. I do not think we should get rid of davis, when fit he is very good going forward loves to get stuck in, I think it will be any two from Tainio, Carrick, Mendes, Davis and I think all four have great talent and that Carrick is not a stand out player amongst them so should not be a definate first choice. I think the compition for places we have now means that players will not get complacent and will try that little bit harder.
    with Ziegler Reid Lennon and Routledge I think we have plenty of young options but I would still maybe like someone more experienced come in, after all isnt their average age 21/22, youth is all well and good but it does help if you have a sheringham or Zola as an experienced head in your team. It is great to see that Spurs fans are taking note & are commenting on who we need to become a competitive top 4 or 5 team, I unfortuanatley cannot comment on who we need as an attacking midfielder as I live in Australia & only see certain games in Europe, there are allot of names spread around & the thing that we all need to remember is that the players who are mentioned will they fit into the current team with the current talent we have? Heres a few players who would fit the attacking midfielder bill: Rosicky (Dortmund), Okocha, Joe Cole, Kleberson, Pablo Aimar (Valencia), Alessandro Del Piero, and to a lesser extent Zoltan Gera of WBA. Despite Stephan Dalmat's arrogance he was an extremely skillful player who also could have performed the attacking midfielder role, but he wont be coming back.

    I haven't been told who, but he will be revealed either in the Peace Cup or by the end of the tournament.

    I had a chat with my source and we both think that it will be Westley Sneijder of Ajax.

    Jol spoke about the club being in negotiations with a club.

    Crouch needs to build up muscle mass on his upper-body. If he had the ability to battle agressively with defenders, then he would be worth £5 million, maybe even £6 million.

    If he came in cheap at lets say £3 million, I would go in for him.

    He does need to develop his shooting, heading and body stength.

    The guy is still young and so has the chance to do that.

    Would I play Crouch alongside Defoe ahead of Kanoute and Keane?

    Definitely! But Mido? It waits to be seen.

    I believe this season will make or break Mido's career. He listened to Jol and lost more than a stone in weight. That shows he is committed. Mido can be world class. I know many of you will disagree with me, but to that, all I can say is to wait and see what the new season brings.

  99. Mido drifted to the left wing far too many times last season. He should have spent more time in the box and in the hole. If he improves his awareness and positioning then he'd be a lot better than Kanoute. He's already got the technique, pace, height and strength. Less individualistic play and more of a provider role from him and we'll see him in the same light as Klinsmann.

    wright-phillips will never play for us. as much as we would love to see him on our wing, as much as he could do very well at WHL, as much as man city need the money, there are some huge blockers in this never-gunna-happen deal.

    1. we have now routledge, lennon, stalteri along with others signed last season for the reserves who can cover the right wing nicely. the money taken to get SWP is more then any sane manager or chairman will pay in our position.

    2. SWP loves it at man city, they raised him from a nobody and he knows he owes them and loves paying them back with his perfomances and loyalty.

  117. A UEFA cup place is on the cards this season but i still feel we have too many mediocre players on the team. Carrick, King, Defoe and Robinson are absolute class, there is no doubting that but if we really want to challenge for honours then we need dramatic improvement. Players like Reid, Davis, Pamarot, Edman, Brown, Mendes etc. are all good but not touching the standards THFC should be aiming to reach. Im not having a go, its just an opinion, Martin Jol is a legend and things can only get better !!!!

    You listed some outs and some ins
    I agree with all your outs aprt from Mido, my reasons are
    1. He wasn't fully fit last year think he played most games including his stunning debut with an injury, with the rest he has had followed by a full preseason schedule I think we will see his full potential.
    2. We need a big STRONG striker, Mido fits that bill, he is great in the air, has a great touch an eye for goal, great finish on Saturday.
    3. He hasn't been given a chance yet, give him a run alongside Defoe and I believe he will be the perfect foil for JD and they will rip defences apart.
    4. He is on loan so it's only costing us wages, he is playing for a contract either with us or somewhere else, we have nothing to loose.

    Now to your ins
