Another Defensive Midfielder Linked

24-year-old Ghanaian Captain Stephen Appiah has apparently told BBC Sport that he will leave Italian giants Juventus and move to a Premiership club.

Appiah said: "I hear Tottenham are the latest side to be interested in me and playing in London would be great but let's wait and see."

Another day and yet another player has been linked with us. The BBC holds some credibility and so I do believe that Appiah actually said the above.

But do we need another central defensive midfielder? We were crying out for one a few season ago, but now, we have more than enough players to fill that position. Sean Davis, Michael Carrick, Pedro Mendes and even Tom Huddlestone can play in the defensive midfield role quite comfortably.

What we don’t have is an attacking midfielder. Not just a player with flair and panache, but a box-to-box player that can score at least around 8 goals a season in open play from midfield. I know some of you think Tainio is that player, but he isn't. This, you will see in the coming months.

Are there any box-to-box players out there that would be interested in coming to Spurs? We have had many of you comment on who we should buy. I would love us to go in for Dortmund’s attacking midfield maestro Tomasz Rosicky. With Dortmund bankrupt, a cheap transfer could be on the cards.

Other news doing the rounds is that Manchester City’s manager Stuart Pearce now has the cash available to make a bid for Fredi Kanoute. With Shaun Wright-Philips off to Chelsea in a £21 million move, Pearce will have around £10 million made available to him.

If this story does hold some substance and Kanoute does leave, then we can almost definitely expect another striker to be joining us.

My personal opinion is that we do not need anymore strikers. Jol should give Mouney (Mounir el Hamdaoui) a chance to see what he can do.

If Keane doesn’t sign a contract, then expect him to go also.

If we hear of anymore rumours doing the rounds, we’ll let you know.
