Another Defensive Midfielder Linked

24-year-old Ghanaian Captain Stephen Appiah has apparently told BBC Sport that he will leave Italian giants Juventus and move to a Premiership club.
Appiah said: "I hear Tottenham are the latest side to be interested in me and playing in London would be great but let's wait and see."
Another day and yet another player has been linked with us. The BBC holds some credibility and so I do believe that Appiah actually said the above.
But do we need another central defensive midfielder? We were crying out for one a few season ago, but now, we have more than enough players to fill that position. Sean Davis, Michael Carrick, Pedro Mendes and even Tom Huddlestone can play in the defensive midfield role quite comfortably.
What we don’t have is an attacking midfielder. Not just a player with flair and panache, but a box-to-box player that can score at least around 8 goals a season in open play from midfield. I know some of you think Tainio is that player, but he isn't. This, you will see in the coming months.
Are there any box-to-box players out there that would be interested in coming to Spurs? We have had many of you comment on who we should buy. I would love us to go in for Dortmund’s attacking midfield maestro Tomasz Rosicky. With Dortmund bankrupt, a cheap transfer could be on the cards.
Other news doing the rounds is that Manchester City’s manager Stuart Pearce now has the cash available to make a bid for Fredi Kanoute. With Shaun Wright-Philips off to Chelsea in a £21 million move, Pearce will have around £10 million made available to him.
If this story does hold some substance and Kanoute does leave, then we can almost definitely expect another striker to be joining us.
My personal opinion is that we do not need anymore strikers. Jol should give Mouney (Mounir el Hamdaoui) a chance to see what he can do.
If Keane doesn’t sign a contract, then expect him to go also.
If we hear of anymore rumours doing the rounds, we’ll let you know.

We are going for the european places this season and all our rivals have strengten....e.g. Boros Newcastle and Everton.
Jol knew that too and have clearly told the board that he only want players that can step in the first team immediately.
We should go for Ashton if Kanoute do go which I think is unlikely, the most likely candidate is Keane.

I wouldn't recommend you do many more predictions of what'll happen at spurs - you clearly have no idea. Martin Jol said he's happy with the strikers we have - unless we managed to get Baptista I doubt we'll be starting the season minus any of the strikers we have now.
is he an attacking midfielder??
Guti and Rosicky are the best bets now. Must get one of them.Tainio I don't know. Useful mid,but from the 2 matches I've seen of him,he didn't score.
Some bored journo picking names out of a hat full of players who are unsettled.
Why is it that because a player once played at WHL for his country, or likes London, or supported Spurs as a kid or ever pulled on a pair of boots.
I'm becoming increasing frustrated that not only do the media keep writing this shit but people keep believing it!
Fact of the matter is we have a Big squad of decent young players, although I'd like to se us sign an attacking midfielder that will bang in the goals i hopnestly doubt we will.
When you look at the competition for midfield places i don't think adding more will do us any favours in the long run, it just means that those not involved will eventually become tired of being bit part players and look to move on.
Any 4 from:
Carrick, Mendes, Davis, Tainio, Brown, El Hamdaoui, Reid, Routledge, Lennon, Huddlestone, Marney, Zeigler.
Personally I'd go for Carrick a…
Not if the "offensive midfielder" swears a lot
Carrick can be our Makelele, and players from davis, mendes, tainio nad brown can hopefully become our Lampard! Don't forget it took lamps 2/3 full seasons to become as good as he is now!
COYS
How many midfielders do you know that score a goal a game or even a goal every two games.
A typical goalscoring midfielders scores around 1 every 3-4 games. Tainio is not a complete goalscoring midfielder in the form of Gerrard but as you can see from the videos above he has a good eye for goal and makes some good runs.
.....I made the statement about Tainio not being an attacking midfielder based upon his performances of the last 2 years.
I am not doubting that he can score. But is he the guy that can take on a player and play that killer through-ball that the likes of Aimar or Rosicky can? No.
That is what I meant. Make no mistake, if Tainio can remain fit (as he is a bit of a sicknote) then he will be a massive player for us.
I only talk facts when I have the evidence to back it up. Everything else I say is solely based upon my own views.
My own personal view is that Tainio is not the attacking midfielder we crave. Appiah is a great player, but wouldn't offer us anything different to what we already have.
Anyone got anymore questions?
Why does our attaking midfielder HAVE to be in the middle? with the passing that Huddlestone and Carrick posess, and the skill of Ziegler and Routledge, we could well do most of our attaking down the wings like we did today, to a very good effect!
its not gonna happen!
these players haven't even played in the Premiership, i would rather proven Prem quality than spend £10m on a Veron or Rebrov again
Guti is a spanish international and their own version of Scholes...what planet you guys are on ?... he is worth the gamble at 5 mil.
It would take all our resolve to convince the "biggies" to come...We just have to be the thick skinned and try to court as many potential big time players as possible.
!
He is what you call a poor man Gerrard and stood toe to toe against the Lverpool captain in our first match last season.Ok he is not exactly the dynamite as is Gerrard but any one outside the top 3 now want a player of his calibre and we got him on the cheap.
The midfield men that would most likely to go is Brown who is in demand at some EPL lower sides.Followed by Mendes who in my opinion give the ball away far too easily at times.
Pick on some scummers like lamemann, gay scumble who cant even get a game -hahahaha- or that paedo arsenel wanger...
I hope im wrong but Baptista is bound to be another Rivaldo or Morientes...
Come on you Spurs!!!
