It has been reported that Tottenham and Liverpool are chasing Fulham's creative midfielder Steed Malbranque. The talented Frenchman ruled out the prospect of playing for Aston Villa and has said that he would rather remain in the capital.

Villa made a bid of around £3.5million, but Malbranque said he had no interest in joining David O'Leary's small side.

The snub to Villa paved the way for both Spurs and Liverpool to step up their interest in the midfielder who arrived at Fulham from Lyon for £4.5m four years ago.

If these reports are true, then it would seem that Spurs boss, Jol, has acknowledged the fact that Parker may be off to Newcastle.

Tottenham are in the hunt for a creative midfield playermaker, with Malbranque fitting into that mold, Spurs fans could see the Frenchman at White Hart Lane in the near future.
