Gerard moves to Monaco
Story from Skysports.com
Monaco have completed the signing of Barcelona midfielder Gerard Lopez on a four-year contract.
The 26-year-old moves on a free transfer having come to the end of his deal at Camp Nou.
The player successfully came through his medical with the Ligue 1 outfit on Wednesday morning and has now put pen-to-paper at the Stade Louis II.
It was reported that Tottenham and a couple of Spanish clubs were to launch late efforts to try and hijack his switch to Monaco, but no such moves materialised.
Gerard has endured a difficult time at Barca since signing from Valencia in the summer of 2000 for around €20 million.
A combination of injury and poor form ensured he never cemented a first-team place and his hugely lucrative contract, one of the highest at the club, ensured he was always an easy target for his critics.
He managed only a handful of appearances in Barca's title-winning team this term and will now be hoping to relaunch his career in France.
