I happen to like Jol, I think he's done some good things for spurs over the last couple of years and 2 games into this season is too early to be calling for his head.
But can't understand why he is not playing some of the new talent in midfield unless (and this is a bit worrying) it was DL who bought in the new players and not Jol and BMJ trying to reassert his authority by sticking with the old guard.
As for all you Jenas haters, he's only underperformed for the last 2 years, give the guy a chance :)

I'm a Jol fan, imo he's the best thing that's happened to Spurs for a number of years. However, he does seem to have a blind spot as far as central midfield is concerned. Quite simply since the sale of Carrick, the central midfield has been pretty useless. Although JJ takes the brunt of the blame from most fans, I actually think that Zokora is far worse. Our central midfield seems to be neither creative, which has been disguised by the quality of our strikers, or unable to provide any protection to the back four. My critisism of BMJ is that he spent shedloads of cash in the summer without addressing this problem, unless Boateng proves to be a saviour. In the interim I hope Large Tom plays on Saturday instead of Zokora who for me should be moved on as rapidly as possible.

Yes i do believe that, 11:19.
I know we have a lot of injuries, and when we get them back we can really judge them and should be able to compete with the best. The thing is, look at the teams we have lost to - even Everton, who are a good side, but on paper are they better than us(even with our injuries)??
When we do have more confidence, that is when we will start beating teams in the top 4. We hardly ever achieve this, where other teams with much less quality do beacuse on the day they believe they can. The manager plays a big part in helping the team BELIEVE they are good enough. A win against Man U away will do wonders for the teams' confidence, and would really set us up for a good season as the shit start would be forgotten. Let us pray!!

Some thoughts:

1. Anyone think our pre-season opponents were a little on the tame side? Not one decent team amongst them. And we all know how well we always start the season. The top 4 teams were playing top european teams in pre season - the best we could manage was Torino (just avoided relegation last year).

2. Cannot blame anyone for the defensive injuries - seems whoever is fit will play, and we know Staltieri & Gardner are not up to it.

3. BUT - why so lame in midfield/attack? I have three explanations,

Firstly see 1 above - I do not think we had a tough enough pre-season.

Secondly, Jol is far too conservative - Lennon is injured, but why no creative replacement? (Taarabt or Routledge - not even on the bench for Sunderland). We saw it last season too - trying to close games up when we were ahead (v the A**e and Chelski).

Thirdly - do we have a game plan for using Bent? - pumping up long high balls for him to challenge for is never going to work. Why no Huddlestone - our only decent passer of the ball - to drop the ball over the top for him?

4. We will get better, I am sure, but unless Jol is more prepared to give our more talented players a decent run, then I fear for our ability to achieve what we aspire to.

I agree with 11:06, the concern has to be some of the players don't seem to have any drive or passion at the moment. there are a few fringe players who must be chomping at the bit to get a game and i think that they could do well. Defoe, Tarrabat, Routledge, Murphy, KPB (even if we only a half out of him), Huddlestone. give these guys a chance, it's not as if they can do much worse.

Remember guys, we support Spurs for a reason, let's get behind them and stop bitching.

Truth is, it hurts to blame MJ because I do like him, but he does have to take some blame.
He very rarely makes a substitution that changes the game in our favour, as we saw a few times last season. Can you imagine us under Fergie, Jose or hate to say it but even Wenger? For a start, they would make the players believe that Spurs ARE a top 4 team, and with that kind of confidence and some good management we would be. I like Bent, but everyone knows we had no problems upfront so why not invest in areas we really needed to,i.e. left wing/ a creative attacking midfielder??
We need width, we need the manager to have the bals to drop players like Jenas and Berbatov if he is not performing, Taraabt needs to be given a chance and for crying out loud give Defoe a fair chance!!
Lets hope big MJ can sort his issues out and still have a good season,maybe winning the UEFA?!
