Was Pochettino Right About European Leagues Helping Sides In The Champions League?

Was Pochettino right about leagues helping sides in the Champions League?

Spurs' Argentinian manager complained about the fixture schedule of the Premier League and said leagues around Europe help their sides in the Champions League. Is that true?

Sky do not have the rights to the UEFA Champions League and thus are only interested in their own ratings, thus they select and move games to suit them and they moved Tottenham to a Sunday when the fixture could have been played Friday or Saturday.

UEFA sells the broadcast rights in a three-season basis and BT has the TV rights to the UEFA Champions League until 2021.

There are a set of Champions League ties this week so when are those sides playing in their domestic leagues?

Juventus  - Fri
Bayern Munich - Fri
Lyon - Fri
Schalke - Sat
Athletico Madrid - Sat
Barcelona - Sat
Man City - Sat
Liverpool - No game

That rather suggests he has a point, doesn't it.

Tottenham - Sun
Borussia Dortmund - Sat
Roma - Fri
Porto - Fri
Manchester United - 12:30 Sat
PSG - Sat
Ajax - Sat
Real Madrid - Sat

Well there you have it, Tottenham had the shortest recovery time between games of all the teams involved in the Champions League and domestic leagues clearly look after their teams involved in the knockout stages.

It takes between 48 and 72 hours for the body to recover from the exertions of a football game at the top level

The Premier League should have been insisting that the game be televised on either Friday or Saturday and not Sunday.

Shame on them and shame on Sky.
