Ryan Sessegnon and Joshua King

Ryan Sessegnon and Joshua King

Two players are once again in the news as our summer transfer targets. One we want but will the other be too expensive for the limited time he can give us?

The Sun are telling us that Fulham value Tottenham target 17-year-old (18 in May) Ryan Sessegnon at £25m which is half of what other clubs quote. He is a Championship player so the lower valuation makes sense given his performances.

The left midfielder, who can operate as a left-back, would seem to fit our advanced full-back position perfectly and we have been chasing him heavily since January, although we have been chasing him for a couple of years and tried to sign him last summer.

Since then his value has shot up, with the Nike sponsored England Under-21 international (he has 1 cap) scoring 14 goals and having 5 further assists. He is under contract until 2020 and will surely move on this summer. Reports have for a long time suggested that he wants to join Spurs so let's hope they are right.

Striker Joshua King is once again being linked with a summer move to us to back up Harry Kane. It is a difficult position to fill given Kane is always going to be first choice. The problem with an out and out striker is he'll sit on the bench a lot, which makes it difficult for him to perform when he does get to play. He has to be a mentally strong player who accepts his role at the club.

The other option is a secondary striker who can play the number 10 role, another Dele Alli, Son type, who can take over as a central striker if and when required. Given we have that, do we need another? Also given the success of winger Mo Salah at Liverpool playing centrally could someone like Erik Lamela play as a central striker?

Bournemouth striker King is a 26-year-old (27 in January) so we have to remember his age when coming to a transfer fee. We have to look at how long he has left until he is 30 and factor that in. The fact that his contract runs until 2021 would make him an expensive option in my eyes and there will be better targets out there, who are also a cheaper price.
