Should Spurs rescue Isco this summer |
Tottenham target Isco is no longer flavour of the month at Real Madrid. All the talk in Spainis about his performances not being good enough and questions are being asked whether his time at the club is up.
The 25-year-old (26 in April) Spanish international midfielder could be ideal for our young, but now experienced and developing squad. The Real Madrid team was changed to accommodate him last season but he can not play in his favoured role behind a striker in their current system.
He is back to being a bench player and was given a start in the defeat to Espanyol, but he didn't impress. Isco wasn't happy with his substitution and he took 45 seconds to leave the pitch. Sergio Ramos didn't like Isco's attitude and told told him that 'at Madrid, you have to leave the pitch by running. You have to show a good attitude.'
So should Spurs try and rescue Isco this summer?
We play the possession football he excels in, Real Madrid's direct style doesn't. A problem though is that, as he signed a new contract his transfer value might be prohibitive, his contract runs until 2022.
Finally a quote from him yesterday after Spain defeated Argentina heavily:
"Here in the national team I have the confidence of the coach, not like in Real Madrid".

I rather think though that it will be Zidane who leaves RM and not Isco.
The stadium investment demands that we raise our 'recruitment sights' somewhat and as long as our our financial viability is not threatened then it appears that RM's intransigent policy towards it's players may have provided us with an opportunity...
p.s. forget about Luke Shaw...the player we need is Ryan Sessegnon...
I think we all know that no club can afford to focus on only one possible solution. Like you, I'd love to see Ryan Sessegnon at Spurs next season. However it's only right and sensible to pursue multiple possible options until we have a firm result. That may already be secured. If so the club and the player are keeping it to themselves for now. So even if the RS deal is confirmed they still need to give the appearance of looking at LS. It just makes sense.
Wouldn't it be great to get RS on the books though. That'd be an exciting signing for the future. Imagine what he could achieve after a year or so under Poch.
Of course you aren't, no more than I was suggesting that there was no alternative to RS but simply that Shaw, IMHO, should not be in the frame.
Of course you aren't, no more than I'm suggesting that we are not looking at other options...it's just that I'm not convinced that Shaw should even be an option for us.
I believe that's the reality of life in football. If second best doesn't work for us then we always have the option of passing on the deal. We are very rarely in the position where we can force anyone to choose us above other options open to them. All we can do is to build up an understanding of what we have to offer and why they SHOULD choose us. From there it's down to individual choice.
I believe we're doing a very fine job in that department. I believe that recent signings illustrate that well (Think Moura and a couple of other highly rated individuals that have come on board in the last year or so).
What I don't believe is that we can afford to target certain individuals while ignoring other options. W…
Also RS could for all we know look good in the Championship but could easily be a flop in the Prem.
I'd be very surprised if RS weren't able to be turned into something fantastic under Poch at Spurs though. He's only just old enough to leave school. From there at Spurs under MP it's inconceivable he would be anything but sensational.
I seem to recall I had similar feelings about Vincent Janssen though if I'm honest :-(
COYS!!
