Patience pays off for Spurs over Aurier

TRANSFER TALK

I concluded a while ago that Serge Aurier was our first choice right-back option in the transfer market and that we wouldn't sign anyone until we were certain we couldn't sign him and despite plenty of talking and an agreement with Manchester United, no transfer has taken place. Now as the window runs down his option reduce and it seems Tottenham are now head of the queue.

Both Juventus and Inter Milan also want to sign him, although Juventus have no non-EU places available in their squad, Aurier though, wants the Premier League.

French newspaper L'Equipe are reporting that we were in negotiations with PSG last night to try and finalise a price for the 24-year-old (25 in December) Ivorian international (he has 41 full international caps for Ivory Coast, scoring 1 goal).

Plenty of fans have been shouting for signings, many moaning we should have brought someone in before now. It now looks as though by waiting, we may well be able to sign our first choice, if that is the case, is it not right that we have waited on this occasion?

Obviously, it doesn't always work in our favour, but is it a policy we should be adopting? I think it is and have had no problem with the way we have used this window to strengthen ourselves for the long term.

No exact details but a fee with add-ons of around £22.9 million (€25m - AUS$37.19m - US$29.44m) is being talked about and a five-year contract with personal terms already agreed.

He can't get a work permit while he still has a jail sentence hanging over him and his lawyers are awaiting the receipt of a document that conforms he will not have to serve a jail sentence for hitting a Police officer.
