Gazzaniga an essential back up keeper
TRANSFER TALK
Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is set to sign and many are asking why we need a third choice goalkeeper, as if signing him stops us signing the stars they want. If Hugo Lloris picked up a 7-week muscle injury or hurt his ankle the way Rose has, he has been out for 6 months, then Vorm would be in goal.
With no third choice goalkeeper we would have to have 18-year-old (19 in October) Alfie Whiteman (England Under-19 international) on the bench or 18-year-old (19 in January) Brandon Austin (recently called up by USA Under-18's - born in Hemel Hempstead UK). They are not ready to play in the Premier League.
Now, in that situation, if you were an opposition player, would you accidentally clatter into Vorm?
Cynical? well that is the world we live in. Look at Shelvey trying to provoke Dele Alli, deliberately stood on his ankle and was sent off. Indeed Dele has been targetted by both sides we have played so far and not had the protection from the referee really. David Luiz was committing foul after fouls and certainly should have been in the book before he was.
A third choice keeper is a must and you are not going to get a top keeper as a third choice. As emergency cover 25-year-old (26 next January) Gazzaniga is simply a sensible and required purchase.

We did sell him to Portsmouth on 12 July and with our youth keepers far too inexperienced, signing a third keeper is therefore obviously an important signing. We could be in real trouble if we don't and minimising risk is part of management.
We couldn't agree a fee for Lopez, thus w have moved on and this guy will no doubt be a stop gap for a couple of seasons while we continue to scour the market and complete a deal that is right deal for Spurs.
I think we were all disappointed but I guess we just have to get on with it now.
