Echoes of Rafael van der Vaart about Llorente signing

TRANSFER TALK

Delighted to see former Spanish international striker Fernando Llorente arrive from Swansea City on a two-year deal with the option of a third. He is a player we tried to sign before Roberto Soldado but failed and who Chelsea wanted this window, but has arrived at our door instead.

The 32-year-old (33 next February) has proven goalscoring form in the Premier League and provides some experience to our squad, plus, hopefully, some reliable cover for Harry Kane. He arrives from Swansea for around £12 million (€13.01m - AUS$19.50m - US$15.45m).

It was Vincent Janssen's job to put pressure on Kane with performances and goals, but he has been unable to adapt his game to ours. Llorente with a bit more experience, he has played for Athletic Bilbao, Juventus, Sevilla as well as the Spanish national side, he may be able to fit into our style of play easier.

He brings experience of winning trophies, including a World Cup and a European Championships, as the list below shows:

Juventus
Serie A title: 2013–14, 2014–15, 2015–16
Coppa Italia: 2014–15
Supercoppa Italiana: 2013, 2015

Sevilla
UEFA Europa League: 2015–16

Spain
FIFA World Cup: 2010
UEFA European Championship: 2012
FIFA Confederations Cup: Third-place 2009

FIFA U-20 World Cup: Silver Shoe 2005

That can only do our youngsters a power of good. It has echoes of Rafael van der Vaart about it, where he gave so much to the youth at the club and passed on his experience to them whenever an occasion arose. If Llorente performs the same role, as well as being a hit on the pitch, then Tottenham fans will come to love him.
