Does Neymar arrival force the sale of Rabiot?

TRANSFER TALK

What does the arrival of Neymar mean for PSG. No club may make more than a £30 million loss in any three year period and that suggests PSG are going to have to sell some players in addition to Serge Aurier.

The permitted loss is on turnover, not transfer activity and Neymar will be on huge wages. Commercially he will bring in far more than the few shirt sales that Spurs fans suggest would pay the wages of any world class player we bought. They won't of course we only receive a small percentage of the revenue generated from shirt ales, the rest goes to Nike, around 90%.

Players like Gareth Bale and Neymar are commercially valuable and huge sums are paid for their commercial appeal in addition to their footballing skills. Those players though, are few are far between, a bog standard top quality player isn't a commercial goldmine, it doesn't simply come with the territory.

Right-back Dani Alves has arrived on a free transfer and former Tottenham youth left-back Yuri Berchiche has arrived from Real Sociedad for £11.74 million (€13m - AUS$19.41m - US$15.40m) plus £2.71 million (€3m - AUS$4.48m - US$3.55m) in add-ons.

Departures so far are 20-year-old (21 next June) striker Jean-Kévin Augustin who has joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for £11.74 million (€13m - AUS$19.41m - US$15.40m), 24-year-old (25 next March) right-back Youssouf Sabaly who has joined Bordeaux for £3.39 million (€3.75m - AUS$5.6m - US$4.44m), 30-year-old (31 next January) goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu who has joined Italian side Torino on a free transfer and 19-year-old (20 next May) left winger Jonathan Ikoné who has joined Montpellier on loan. Left-back Maxwell has also retired.

For several season now we have tracked 22-year-old (23 next April) central midfielder Adrien Rabiot. We did at one time have an agreement, as did he in his contract, to take him on loan but PSG came up with excuses to stop him joining until the end of that January window, by which time we deemed it too late.

We have tracked him ever since and he is still a player of interest to us who we might have a chance of abstaining if PSG have to balance the books a little bit. Juventus have made an approach to PSG for him but were turned down, the two clubs don't have a great relationship which wouldn't have helped.

Where the suggestion that he might be available for £20.34 million (€22.5m - AUS$33.59m - US$26.65m) has come from I don't know, but from what I hear PSG are reluctant to sell, they can't keep everyone though.
