Barcelona midfielder Gomes could be a bargain in today's market

TRANSFER TALK

The news from Spain is that André Gomes is unwanted at Barcelona after his poor debut campaign. The 24-year-old (25 next July) Portuguese international central midfielder is a player we have been linked with for the past two seasons and he also interests Manchester United and Inter Milan.

He is being offered around Europe by super agent Jorge Mendes according to a Spanish presenter and was linked with Juventus who have turned down the opportunity of signing him.

Jorge Mendes is offering to André Gomes for all the important European clubs, x that is coming out his name

Whenever I hear the name Jorge Mendes I recall a piece of ITK that suggested Daniel Levy had told everyone at Spurs that we will not do business with him. If that is true and nothing has changed, then Gomez won't be joining Tottenham.

André Gomes (hip) and Thomas Vermaelen (leg), who both picked up minor injuries during the friendly against Nastic, didn't train with the Barcelona squad and will not play in the Gamper trophy game.

He is under contract until 2021 and just to show release clauses are not transfer values, he has a release clause of £90.24 million (€100m - AUS$148.49m - US$117.14m) written into his contract. he will be available for around £31.58 million (€35m - AUS$51.97m - US$41.21m), the price Barcelona paid Valencia for him a year ago. There were also a further £18.05 million (€20m - AUS$29.7m - US$23.55m) add-ons, which clearly won't be payable if they sell him.

If we feel he could fit in Mauricio Pochettino's system he could be a bargain buy in today's market. Barcelona want buyback clauses, if they would waive that then we might be able to do business, but it would take a bit of negotiation to achieve.

Barcelona are trying to buy Paulinho, but his Chinese owners don't want to sell. Guangzhou Evergrande are demanding £36.09 million (€40m - AUS$59.4m - US$47.1m). If he does arrive then they will have an abundance of midfield players and may be more willing to accept a deal.

It isn't just Spurs who do deals towards the end of the window!
