Spurs and Arsenal trying for the same double swoop, really!

TRANSFER TALK

Silva-and-Carvalho

The Portuguese press (O Jogo) are at it again I see suggesting we are after two players from Sporting Clube de Portugal, 28-year-old (29 next March) central midfielder Adrien Silva and 25-year-old (26 next April) defensive midfielder William Carvalho. They also suggest Arsenal are trying to buy the same pair in a double deal as well, coincidence? Something smells fishy.

Both are Portuguese internationals, Silva has 20 full international caps scoring 1 goal in the Confederations Cup third-place play-off last month. Ten of his full international caps have been in friendlies.

WBA, Everton, Leicester City and West Ham United are said to also be interested in him, WBA having had two offers turned down. Silva is under contract until 2020 with a further year option.

The right-footed midfielder has played 168 games (40 goals, 17 assists) in central midfield, 26 games (4 goals, 2 assists) as a defensive midfielder, 13 games (0 goals, 0 assists) as an attacking midfielder and 1 game (0 goals, 0 assists) on the left of midfield.

He has played 14 games in the UEFA Champions League (3 goals, 1 assist) and 285 games (47 goals, 22 assists) in his career. He had a ruptued knee ligament from February 20 until April  11 last season, the longest time he has spent out of the game with an injury (50 days) since 2011.

Sapo Desporto suggest Sporting want £27.11 million (€30m - AUS$44.87m - US$35.64m) for him.

William Carvalho has 37 international caps also scoring 1 goal in the World Cup qualifier against Latvia in November 2016. Fifteen of his full international caps have been in friendlies. He is also under contract until 2020.

Italian champions Juventus are said to be interested and it is reported he has a £36.16 million (€40m - AUS$59.82m - US$47.52m) release clause, although we know release clauses are not transfer fees, just a figure to try and prevent players leaving.

Also a right-footed midfielder, Carvalho has played 155 games (12 goals, 12 assists) as a defensive midfielder, 18 games (0 goals, 1 assist) as a central midfielder and 9 games (0 goals, 1 assist) as a centre-back.

He has 12 UEFA Champions League games (0 goals, 2 assists) under his belt and 207 games (13 goals, 15 assists) in his career. He has only has one injury, a shinbone injury that kept him out for 72 days between July 14 2015 and September 24 2015.
