Ricardo looks an ideal replacement for Walker

TRANSFER TALK

Ricardo Domingos Barbosa Pereira, known simply as Ricardo, is a 23-year-old (24 in October) Portuguese international (he has 2 full international caps) who plays for French club OGC Nice on loan from Portuguese side FC Porto as either a winger or a full-back.

He is right footed and his primary position is right-back so it seems certain we are scouring for a suitable first-team replacement for Kyle Walker, with Kyle Walker -Peters not being ready for regular Premier League football should their be an injury to Kierran Trippier.

Sponsoted by Nike he is under contract at Porto until 2019. Last season he played 2,574 minutes, equivalent to 28.6 full games, over 30 appearances, scoring 2 times and adding a further 4 assists. Over that time he picked up 2 yellow cards, a little different that Veltman at Ajax picking up 12.

The press in Germany have linked him with Bayern Munich, while the French press have linked him with PSG, although that story does originate from Portuguese newspaper A Bola. It is thought they see him as a replacement for Serge Aurier should he leave the club.

The Black Pearl of Nice has a £21.98 million (€25m - AUS$37.06m - US$28.03m) and has the pace, technique, dribbling ability and tackling ability we are looking for. Being versatile he shouldn't have any problem adapting to our style of play and may well enjoy the licence our full-backs get, especially when we play with three at the back. His pace, like Walker, allows him to get back to cover.

He takes up good defensive positions and seems to have picked up the art of defending very quickly. His ability to beat defenders and his crossing ability have caught the eye of Pochettino and he could well be a better fit than Veltman or some of the other candidates we have seen mentioned.

He was a winger or striker and has been moved back first to right-back, then left-back which has seen his career ignite. He made the L'Equipe Team of the Week twice this season. Whoscored had him in their Team of the Month in September.

he looks like an excellent wing-back, right-back in the making.
