Did Liverpool tap up Virgil van Dijk?

TRANSFER TALK

Southampton have asked the Premier League to investigate an alleged illegal approach from Liverpool for Saints centre-back Virgil van Dijk the Press Association report.

The 25-year-old (26 in July) looks set to join Liverpool with a figure of £60 million being discussed in the media, but if Southampton are putting in a complaint then they are hardly likely to have agreed a fee.

Liverpool overpaid for  27-year-old (28 in July) Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovern from Southampton in July 2014 and then we snatched Toby Alderweireld from under their noses from Atletico Madrid. he was on loan at Southampton who misjudged the terms of his loan agreement.

Now they look like losing a fourth centre-back after 33-yearold (34 in December) José Fonte went to West ham United in January. Dutch international (he has 22 full international caps) Van Dijk only signed a new 6-year contract last May, but as I have said before, a contract is merely a way of protecting the financial worth of an asset (player).
