Spurs scouting £21.3m striker

Tottenham have reportedly stepped up activities in the pursuit of 21-year-old (22 next January) Sampdoria striker Patrick Schick.

The 1.87 m (6 ft 2 in) Czech republic striker (he has 3 caps and has scored 1 full international goal) has been a huge success in his first Serie A season after moving from Czech Republic side Sparta Prague for £3.4 million (€3.99m - AUS$5.91m - US$4.39m).

He signed a contract last July taking him until 2020 and in his first season has hit 11 Serie A goals in 1,324 minutes over 30 games (equivalent to just 14.71 full games).

The left-footed striker has hit a further 2 goals in 149 minutes of Coppa Italia football over 3 games, a goal every 75 minutes. In Serie A he has scored a goal every 120 minutes and also chipped in with 3 assists so has had a hand in a Serie A goal every 94.57 minutes.

To compare that, Harry Kane, who is a similar 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) to Schick, has scored 22 Premier League goals in 2,367 minutes  (equivalent to just 26.3 full games) at a rate of one goal every 108 minutes. Kane has also chipped in with 6 assists so has had a hand in a goal every 84.54 minutes.

His numbers stack up very well against Kane in a league where defences are very well organised and in a culture where defending is seen as a positive trait, rather than the secondary trait we see it as over here.

The Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Webb, report that Borussia Dortmund and Spurs sent scouts to watch Schick play for Sampdoria in their 1-1 draw with Cheivo Verona.

The Italian media make Inter Milan favourites to sign him with Juventus keenly interested, Napoli are consistently linked too. Tottenham keeps getting mentioned all the time also. Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are just a few of the others.

he has an excellent technique, is quick, has confidence in himself and seems to possess an excellent footballing brain in the final third.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported at the weekend that we were pushing strongly for him so clearly, we are trying to convince him and his agents that Tottenham should be the next step in his career.

Or could it be that we are regularly scouting him and the Italians, as our media would, correlate that as stepping up interest?

One potential stumbling block is that harry Kane will be the number one striker, players do like to play rather than share a role. On a positive note, we can offer UEFA Champions League football next season where Inter can't.

The TMW report lists the amount wanted for him as £25.57 million (€30m - AUS$44.47m - US$33.03m), however, other reports say he has a  £21.30 million (€25m - AUS$37.06m - US$27.52m) release clause.

With Kane and Vincent Janssen it may be difficult to convince another striker to join Spurs.
